Hello,

I am currently using two routers, one in gateway mode and another in router mode . The first is a WRT54G v2 set to gateway and the other is an ASUS WL-520GU set to router, and as a DHCP forwarder. The WRT54G is currently loaded with the Tomato firmware, and the WL-520GU is loaded with DD-WRT.

I have the WRT54G set up as 192.168.1.1 and the WL-520GU as 192.168.1.2. I tried having the web interface on the WL-520GU as port 8081, but when I try to access that from the WAN I just get a not-found error. I can access it fine internally by just going to the router's IP.

Also, I tried fowrarding port 8081 in the WRT54G to the WL-520GU with no luck.

So, the gist is that I just want to be able to access both router configuration pages from the WAN. Probably something simple I'm overlooking Wink .

Thanks,
Chris

If you set up a port forward on the linksys port 8081 to port 80 on the asus, then also make sure that you set the gateway of the asus to 192.168.1.1 so that it knows how to route its response. That should work then.

Knasher,

Thanks for the reply.. I do have the gateway set to 192.168.1.1 on the Asus (also for DNS server), with the web interface port set to 8081.

Still no dice..

So the WRT54G's LAN IP is 192.168.1.1 and the Asus' WAN IP is 192.168.1.2, correct? In "router" mode, the LAN IP must be in a different network than WAN, unless you are using this as an access point or something which I cannot reliably determine from the amount of info you provided.

Why would he be forwarding to port 80 of the Asus? IIRC port 80 is inaccessible from the WAN when the firewall is enabled. Normally, the WAN management port is 8080 or if he changed it, to 8081.

Then in main router you port forward 8081 to 8081 on the Asus and access it by http://wan_ip:8081

soulstace,

I am not using the Asus as an access point. For all intents and purposes, it is serving as a switch, however I still want to be able to access the Asus web configuration.

As far as the IP, I don't have a WAN address assigned for the Asus, only the LAN address. It's basically just sitting on my internal network as a switch, connected to the Linksys.

Thanks for the continued help!

that is what threw me off. The gateway/router setting doesn't mean anything if you are just using this as a switch.

Apparently Knasher already understood what you were trying to do. It should be easy. You just port forward port 80 to the IP address of the secondary router.

Right, and unfortunately setting the gateway to 192.168.1.1 does not work..

I figured that should work, also. No dice.

You're probably forwarding to the wrong port.

Wow, just to prove my own ignorance, I did the forward to port 80 on the Asus and that works.

Sorry for all the confusion and doubting, I'm humbled Smile .

Thanks guys!
