I bought a WRT-160N v2 tonight - with the intention of installing DD-WRT in order to create a vLAN (I'm a noobie). Has anyone done this with this router yet?
When I use the web-based uploader and dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin, the uploader just tells me that it failed. When I use TFTP, the error is "Wrong Code Pattern".

There's a v2 now? If you need it working in hurry I would return it and look for v1. Anyway, v2 is currently not supported. Someone has to find out what processor it has and what changes were done on v2. I would not try flashing v2 unless you want a bricked router. Never try flashing any router til you check out the supported list which will have very important info or you might end up with a bricked router.
IF you want to help out with the development of dd-wrt for wrt160n v2... you'll probably have to crack open the router and take some photos so we can see what changes of the hardware and post up the photos so that Eko, BS, and the other developers can look at it.
Also can you find out on the bottom of the router and see what the FCC ID?
My fears have been confirmed then - I didn't realize the bit about it being a "v2" until after I had made the attempt. I had checked the confirmed list earlier in the day - just not carefully enough.
I will be returning it (it's dropping anyway), so no able to help with the development beyond the FCC ID (sorry).
The FCC ID of the Linksys WRT-160N is Q87-WRTN160V2.
To the OP, it's my understanding that the WRT150n/160n do not support VLAN's. I was not very happy to learn about this, but there isn't much we can do about it. I am shocked that a v2 version is out already. It seems like the WRT160n just came out not that long ago.

I found the internal pictures and specs of the Linksys WRT160N v2 on the FCC's website. It looks like they have moved to a Ralink chipset in this version. Does this mean that it is unlikely that DD-WRT will ever run on it?
Please let me know... I may just return this router for another model.
What're the first 4 digits of the serial number? That'll help others identify whether it's a v1 or v2? _________________ RT-AC66U (asuswrt-merlin 374.43 LTS V44EA)

Yes, no DD-WRT under Ralink...thats too bad...the WRT160N v1 runs fairly solid under the DD-WRT firmware.
Glad to hear that SOMEONE's does. My runs horribly. Mostly the wireless side, I think... It comes and goes, connection up and down, sometimes you can't see the SSID until a reset, sometimes you just have to wait until it's ready to show it to you again. Sometimes even without the wireless dropping it seems that routing to/from the internet comes and goes. I'm not happy with it's performance at all, but I'm tired of buying new routers...
My WRT160N v1 is running DD-WRT Standard just fine. I have had it up 24x7 for the past two or so months with NO problems whatsoever.
When I first fired it up with the stock Linksys firmware, it was dropping my wireless connections at a regular rate when in "Mixed" mode. After the upgrade I have had no worries.
I bricked my v1 , but when I got a replacement from Best Buy, it was a v2. I didn't notice it until now . Is there any custom firmware besides dd-wrt that will run on this router? Or am I stuck with Linksys firmware forever.
I know one of the developers on here said if a picture was provided of the inside of the router, they would adapt it to the chip. Not sure if this has been tried yet though.
Other router firmware that I have tried:
Sveasoft
OpenWrt
X-Wrt
Tomato
Do a Google on them and you will find the downloads and such.
