**simple workaround 1st post of 2nd page**

Hey guys
I have been somehow absent from the latest ddwrt developments, so go easy on me if i ask stupid things.

My network setup is easy:

ADSL MODEM ---> WRT54GS v2.1 <----> WRT54GS v5

WRT54GS v2.1 is the main router. Runs DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/27/08 ) std - build 10011
WRT54GS v5 is the client router. Runs DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/27/08 ) micro - build 10012

Both routers are running DD-WRT v24-sp1

Im aware that the BCM4712 works better with the VINT driver, but since theres not a sp1 release with this driver i thought i would give the NEWD sp1 version a try.

I configured both routers with a WDS setup and a WPA2 Personal encryption with AES algorithm. Both have same ssid and same channel. DHCP server is running on the main router.
As soon as i configured the WDS, i can ping both routers from my pc and network connectivity is 100% functional.
I can also reboot the client router as many times as i want. The WDS will pick up very fast and again pings to both router will be OK.

My problems begin when i reboot the main router. WDS just goes down and will never get back online. I get timeouts to both routers all the time and the only fix to this is connecting to the main router via cable and re-applying the WDS and wireless security settings again. Thats the only way i will be able to get ping responses from both routers.

I have no idea why is this happening. Im sure it has something to do with the main router, since as i told you before, rebooting the client router will not affect the WDS connectivity.
I have tried going back to VINT release, enabling STP (this only gave me lots of TX errors) and even changing the ACK timing. No good results at all.

The only workaround is disabling it the wireless security at all.

Can anyone please give me some hints on this? Its driving me nuts Shocked

thanks

Hello, look at http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35828&highlight= and http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36060&highlight=

The best settings voor WDS is for me WPA AES or WPA2 AES. You must disable the firewall in de client. You can change the beacon to 50.

thanks for the reply.
as i specified in my last post, my wds had WPA2 AES. the firewall in the client router is disabled but doenst make any difference.
still cant connect to host router.

just found out that the only easy way to make it work, temporarily, is by going to the host router and re-apply the WDS settings this way:
1)disable the WDS with the client router
2)do not apply or save settings
3)enable back again the WDS
4)apply settings
5)wds will pick up in 15 seconds and the ping will show responses from both routers

i believe theres something more that a enabled firewall or a newbie mistake done by me
Sad

Hello,

When i do first save and then apply settings then all oke with the wds. When I do only direct apply settings then it take's a lot of time that the wds client connect.

Hi,

I had a lot of WDS issues with v24 SP1 in my 2 ASUS WL-500gp. The behaviour it's quite similar that you described.

The only way to get working again was installing the v24.

Hope it helps.

it has nothing to do with WDS stability. the SAVE button will save thing but you will have to reboot the router to apply the new settings. anyways, i always reboot my routers after doing some important configuration. so im sure what youre saying is not the cause of my problem

this happened to me in v24 as well. the thing is that you have a complete different hardware here. so i doubt your workaround will apply to my situation.

thanks for the replies. anyone with a 4712 chipset and wds??? Shocked

you are not the only one who has this problem. I have two linksys WRT-54G V3/V2 installed with DD-WRT v24v SP1. with the same problem using WDS WPA AES. Every few days the WDS would stop working. And I would have to disable and enable it to get it working. And when it reboots, I would still have to do the same thing to get WDS to get it working.

Anyway going back to DD-WRT v24 the problem goes away again. There seems to something wrong with WDS with dd-wrt SP1.

At this point I'm just sticking to DD-WRT v24 til the WDS problem with SP1 is fixed.....

I don't have that isue with SP1 I run >15 days without wds problem.

Only the problem when I change something without first save and then apply settings.

Hi,

I am using WDS on both of my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 since v24RC1.

Worked, didnt, worked again...

Finally I found just one working and stable setting. Running stable since RC6 even now with v24SP1.

Encryption: WPA1/2 + AES.
- TKIP connections collapsed frequently.

SPI Firewall: Disabled
- (as in a lot of postings of course)

Radio Scheduling: Disabled
- had to take a walk every few days to manually reset the routers

Bye,

mpunkt

Has anyone a working WDS with enabled radio scheduling? Would like to shut down wireless at night?

thanks for all the info
i disabled SPI firewall on client router and wds seems to be more stable. lets see what happens.
since i believe many people are having this same issue, i wonder what dev's think about it. it would be nice to see some official confirmation.
im gonna reboot both routers simultaneously and see what happens. will post results later
now working with wpa1 + aes
thanks

I have the same config as you. Same WRT54G's versions as well. This has been a problem for me since moving to v24. But in my case I can't reboot either router. When I do WDS breaks. I have to shutdown both, enable the main router, wait a few minutes then enable the secondary. Sometimes I have to work through this 3-4 times before WDS works. Once it connects, it's very stable and I have no problems. Only when I reboot one of the routers does this break. I've noticed that if I disable wireless encryption before rebooting WDS works every time after either router is rebooted.

apparently, with the SPI disabled, yes. the wds goes back up. im out of town so i cant test right now. as soon as i get back home, ill reboot the main router and see what happens with the wds link.
the only thing i can confirm you right now is that WPA2+AES didnt work after rebooting routers.
i will let you know when i get home this monday.

Just to give some more input to the developers. This also occurs with this configuration:

- 2 * WRT-GL 54 v1.1
- DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) std
- SPI enabled on host, disabled on client
- WPA PSK with TKIP

So, this is not a new bug.
