Hey i found some wrt54gs v7.2 at my local wal mart so i get one at 39.99 and sucesfully flashed using the intructions posted on the compatible harware list

Howewer i use just do it easy , i puted the vxworks killer ( lastest that was on the guidee ) and tft to flash the v24generic dd-wrt version ,

I have opened the unit and can take a couple of pics if anyone interested on the insides of the little box...

What a shame that the antennas are now fixed
anyway inside you can see that on the pcb where the original antenna conecctors where there are still the holes to put them , so just want to see if anybody come with a mod, the stock antennas suckkkkkk big time

I was tempted to put a rp-sma conector i have from an old netgear MR814 v1 i have on the closet
if anyone have known of an antenna mod for this boxes tell me, will like to do it on this box

shame those boxes dont have broadcom chipset

anyway the v7.2 gets hot so i also want to add a fan or some chip heat sink, the RF out is a little cage of metal, the heat is generated on that unit or on the actual broadcom chipset ??

Hope i had those neat laser temp sensors

Ok, if anyone wants pics of that new units i can share here

Here's what I did: antenna mod on WRT54Gv8

Unsoldered & pushed out stock antennas.
Used side-cutters to remove the black plastic that sticks out.
Evened-up hole with round file.
Crimped RP-TNC connector onto a short piece of coax.
Inserted connector into hole in cover & tightened.
Soldered coax to left antenna pads on board.
Set DD-WRT to use only left antenna.

It is alive!!!

Since I only needed one antenna at the moment, I haven't installed a second one yet.

Awesome WARP!!!!

I was thinking on add the TNC conectors to the main pcb
but your solution is more clever...

COOL!!!
btw... can you post close ups on the solder pads...
to see where are the ground and the hot side of the antenna

Please forgive the lack of quality and composition. I am not a photographer, nor do I have very good equipment.

Anywho, close-ups of solder pads.

@rolo95: Grab that soldering iron & go to it!

@chemojay:
Tftp utility: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/tornado/Windows-TFTP/tftp2.exe

Start tftp utility and enter:
Server = 192.168.1.1
Password = (leave blank)
File = browse to the firmware bin that you downloaded (micro only)
Set retries to 99

Always do 30-30-30 Hard Reset before and after flashing.

Also, be sure that you use the proper guide for your model router.
Gv7.2 and GSv7.2 sometimes get confused with each other.

A hard reset is holding the reset button for 30sec.with power on, power off, and then power on again. 30/30/30 Smile
