I really appreciate help to get my integrated wifi controller working in my X86_64 box. I have no idea where to start.
My system information is below as well as my observation. Thank you in advance.
Router Model
Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. PRO B550M-VC WIFI (MS-7C95)
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r63790 std (02/24/26)
Kernel Version Linux 6.12.74 #833 SMP Tue Feb 24 23:48:40 +07 2026 x86_64
When the system boots up I can see the wifi controller was identified. After serveral attempt to direct load some firmware (like 10 times), DD-WRT failed to initialize it.
lspci shows the controller as a "MEDIATEK Corp. MT7921K (RZ608) Wi-Fi 6E 80MHz"
Any assistance and direction will be very much appreciated.
Note: The instruction set is at the end of this post.
I have no idea how to translate it into DD-WRT procedures but it gave me some idea even it is for USB Wifi adapters.
Did the following from console
modprobe mt7921 - module not found
modprobe mt7921k - module not found
modprobe mt7921au - module not found
modprobe mt7921u - registered new interface driver mt7921u, but WiFi tab didn't show up in web gui
modprobe mt7921e - saw the following console output
Direct firmware load for mediatek/WIFI_RAM_CODE_MT7961_1.bin failed with error -2
ASIC revision 79610010
Direct firmware load for mediatek/WIFI_MT7961_patch_mcu_1_2_hdr.bin failed with error -2
same above message 9 more times
hardware init failed
These failure messages also matched what I saw during bootup.

4. MT7921 - mt7921au, mt7921, and mt7921k (AMD RZ608) chipsets (specific to OpenWRT)
Note: With OpenWRT 22.03.3 or later, to install the mt7921u driver (for adapters based on the mt7921au chipset) and the 2 requested firmware files, simply install the following package:
kmod-mt7921u
Previously, the kmod-mt7921e package also had to be installed as it installed the firmware files. This is no longer necessary.

Probably won't see 802.11ax support on the hardware anytime soon. There was previous testing with other hardware as noted in the second linked topic. Cross-post removed, PM deleted. Keep the discussion in one spot and public, please.
understood, yet i know chipset work(ed) on x64 images in the past .... tested it on many occasions on PCengines Routerboards with minipci-express slot with M.2 to minipci-e adapter and also native minipci-express version of RZ608/MT7921 module
also tested on random x64 router motherboards from chinese vendors...
well , have you tried openwrt or even just a random linux image and made the card work?
do you use a fully paid dd-wrt x64 license ? the free license has only 24 hour wifi support if i remember right ...

After doing "modprobe mt7921u - registered new interface driver mt7921u",
does "ifconfig" show the wlan interface in down modus?
If so bring it up by "ifconfig <if-name> up".
Then add it to the bridge "brctl addif br0 <if-name>"
You have to install the full version of X64-DD-WRT, then you have one day to test it, or use a registered version.

I am using the full version registered DD-WRT image. I don't think the public version even try to load any wifi drivers.
ifconfig show no wifi interfaces
I added my old R9000 back as a WAP and I have no problem waiting for the 6E support while giving me the option to use the public image.
