I installed DD-WRT v3.0-r4715 (11/03/20) latest on an Asus R7000 router. It's connected to my own cable modem. Speed test via LAN cable is 598 Mbps/42 Mbps. Speed test via wifi is 312 Mbps/42 Mbps.

Using an Asus R8000 router and factory firmware I had the same issue that was solved by rolling back the firmware to a much older version.

Are there any wifi settings I should try changing?

Moved to Broadcom. Neither the R7000 nor the R8000 are Asus models. They are Netgear. Also, 44715 is not the latest.

Announcement: Broadcom Forum FAQ – README
Sticky: BCM Best Wifi Settings (Good starting point, YMMV)

Update: I did flash DD-WRT 44715 dated Dec 16, 2025 onto the R7000. This version is doing the same thing, meaning it's throttling the bandwidth over wifi from 444 Mbps to 264 Mbps just now.

On the original post, I mentioned my Netgear R8000 did this and the issue was solved by rolling back to an older version of the OEM firmware. I wish I knew what setting/feature in the firmware is making it do that. Ideas?

The R8000 have a second processor that handled the wifi that the R7000 does not have.
