Previous/Reset: r62966 / yes
Mode/Status: Gateway mode with PPPoE WAN, Dnsmasq client/server enabled, Wi-Fi 5GHz active, CTF enabled
CPU Temperature: WL0 51.0 °C
Issues/Errors:
- **CTF bug**: After upgrade, CTF only works properly if pressing *Save & Apply* multiple times in Setup.
- When CTF is active, throughput reaches ~300 Mbps.
- However, after rebooting the modem, CTF fails and throughput drops to ~40–45 Mbps.
- To restore full speed, the *Save & Apply* procedure must be repeated manually.
- This issue also occurs on previous firmware versions:
- "dd-wrt.v24-62966_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2000.bin"
- "dd-wrt.v24-62890_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2000.bin"

If your router's light turns red, don't worry. Internet connection is ok.

Log in via CLI and issue this command....it will list you the nvram options to enable the CTF
than to enable ctf_fa settings use the set of those commands...kind of...
nvram set ctf_disable=0
nvram set ctf_fa_mode=1
nvram commit
reboot
Than on reboot those values should stay preserved...no need to use buggy GUI to activate this if so...
In general enabling those options either via GUI or CLI always requires a router reboot... _________________ Atheros

I have tested this carefully on my Linksys E2000.
When configuring PPPoE and pressing Save, the router stays in SFE mode. If I check via SSH:
nvram show | grep ctf
size: 19798 bytes (45738 left)
ctf_disable=1
has_ctf=1
Then I run:
nvram set ctf_disable=0
nvram set ctf_fa_mode=1
nvram commit
but in the GUI it still shows SFE, not switching to CTF. After reboot, checking again shows:
nvram show | grep ctf
ctf_disable=1
nvram set ctf_fa_mode=1
has_ctf=1
So the values are not preserved, and I must go into the GUI and manually set CTF.
However, when PPPoE connects, the modem immediately reboots itself. Even using the old workaround (Save & Apply multiple times) does not help anymore — the only way is to reset and reconfigure everything from scratch.

but still I need to press Save & Apply several times before throughput recovers to ~300 Mbps. Otherwise, speed is stuck around 40–45 Mbps.
So the CLI method does not fix the issue
yep your router is old and doesn't have FA, so only CTF... is avalable and
this setting means nothing then...so its not needed..
nvram set ctf_fa_mode=1

Yes, understood, it's old. However, with CTF enabled I can still reach around ~300 Mbps WAN speed, which is quite good for this hardware. That said, I guess it is time for me to consider upgrading to a newer router to avoid these limitations.

On the EA6400 I have more than 600 mbit/s on WAN / LAN ports. On E2000 is rather hardware limit. You can try to force gigabit mode in switch configuration and disable Auto Negotiation feature. On device you can turn off useless tools. Look at firewall. It can make sources utilisation.

That is just nonsense
The switch will do 1 GB/s just fine but going from LAN <> WAN the CPU comes into play, CTF provides limited hardware acceleration and if you have FA it provides even more hardware acceleration, but FA is only available on Broadcom Northstar targets (mostly the routers with dual core Arm CPU running K4.4.)
300 Mb/s is actually very good with that old hardware and a single CPU running at 354 MHz

But it is probably time to get a better router
Lol, with ~300 Mbps WAN speed the E2000 is already maxed out, when I run IDM downloads the CPU hits 100%. It’s good enough for this old box, but clearly I’ll need another device to really use my 1 Gbps line.
