It's known to have hardware problems, dying WLAN radios, and a terrible network port design (2 cascaded switches and a pretty useless 10Gbit SFP+ port, and a useless 60GHz radio).
For that money, you can get current hardware with the same or better performance.
(And probably with fewer design flaws.) _________________ Quickstart guides:
They are all at the performance level of the R9000 and faster.
They all achieve around 1Gbit Wireguard throughput.
They also have modern CPU architecture and AES acceleration, at least the IPQ CPUs do (I don't know about the Mediatek CPU in the GL6000). _________________ Quickstart guides:

yep R9000 or (XR 700) both the same is a nice buddy, but as ho1Aetoo nowadays is an old fart...better follow his advice...I strongly recommend Dynalink WRX36 or Linksys MX... line all those that ho1Aetoo recommended with A53 CPU as you may also notice those few could be hard to find on Amazon/ebay but if you hunt around and not in rush you can even get those cheaper...
Im about to get MX5300 if im lucky enough soon...still not sure if those are flashible as there ware some issues reported.....for the initial factory flash not working...not sure if those ware fixed ever since... _________________ Atheros

Thanks ho1Aetoo and Alozaros so much for those sound recommendations. It is very much appreciated.
I've looked a little already for MXs and WRX36 as egc mentioned those, but it appears these particular models seem to be kind of unavailable in my area (Europe).
If I get those overseas, will there be a "problem" with WiFi region or once on DD-WRT it will not matter anyway?

just a quick look and ive found MX5300 for 50 quid...i was even thinking to buy it...
next week a friend will bring me one for testing.. so, im still considering.. but, if you are in EU and can afford it...go and buy it..
I stand corrected, a couple of MX5300 could appear to be available, but as kernel-panic69 mentioned, I'm not sure that would be the "best" choice (still better than R9000..?)
Thanks a lot for your help, once again, much appreciated!
As you can read in the thread, this is a blind port.
And the firmware doesn't boot properly; it seems to have some problems with the nvram.
Otherwise, the boot log looks pretty good.
Now, if you have a device like this, you can alternatively install different firmware such as openwrt to bridge the gap until dd-wrt works. _________________ Quickstart guides:
Well, there are tons of bugs everywhere that haven't been fixed for months.
Posting the problems in the forum doesn't seem to be particularly effective.
The only thing that probably helps is to directly annoy them: “Hi BS, I bought an MX5300 and tried to flash dd-wrt, but it doesn't boot completely and gets stuck in a boot loop—what can we do about it?” _________________ Quickstart guides:

But still now follow-up on more recent releases. I've no control over whether forwarded information to BrainSlayer results in immediate action or not. The .dts file hasn't been touched in 9 months. Perhaps someone else needs to create noise about it. I can't post emails or PMs in the open since it's against the rules that govern this forum.
