Router Model Netgear R9000 Nighthawk X10
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r62778 std (11/21/25)
Kernel Version Linux 6.12.58 #95 SMP Fri Nov 21 01:32:54 +07 2025 armv7l

update: CLI r62606> r62778 how exciting new kernel 6.12
reset: NO/YES
mode: Gateway/Stubby DoT via Entware, AD-Block (via DNSmasq script),IPtables Firewall,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x2VLAN,40 HT 2.4Ghz only(Vanilla), Disable 121, ECM-NSS & QCA Subsystem - disabled

status: Operational 1h+ Kind of...
errors: router didn't go well without reset....it booted normally, ntp time came up, WAN was ok, but somehow no DNS resolution...im using stubby, but tried SmartDNS or DNSmasq plain...with server=9.9.9.9...no DNS, no internet,no fun....however, after reset and added credentials, router was working ok (settings by default)...sadly no time to fiddle and rebuild options manually, until i find what breaks...and when... klog didn't show some vital insights, but ready to share it later..currently busy and on the road..

l8trs..
Cool

P.S. So far after reset: Getaway, SmartDNS/TLS, no vlans, min iptables firewall...both wifi radio's are working (Vanilla)...SFE is off, nothing in start up, nor in usb script...(usb disabled)...no VPN client or server, just plain set up...networking page says WAN is vlan2, br0 has eth1,eth0,wlan1 by default...all working so far...

Router/Version: Dynalink DL-WRX36
File: dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r62778 std (11/21/25) (prev. DD-WRT v3.0-r62606 std (11/12/25))
Kernel: Linux 6.6.116-rt29 #4610 SMP Thu Nov 20 14:08:38 +07 2025 aarch64
Mode: Gateway, SFE disabled, 2.4G (20MHz mixed, WPA2 Personal, WPA3 Personal / SAE - CCMP-128 (AES)) and 5G (80MHz AX / AC / N Mixed, WPA3 Personal / SAE - CCMP-128 (AES)) wifi, bridged VAP on 2.4GHz, Wireguard for external access, WAN disabled, Keep Alive reboot 6:02 in the morning, using my own local NTP
Reset: No
Status: Installed, working.

1) Wireless --> Domain set to Germany results in TX Power capped at 14 dBm (2.4GHz) and 18 dBm (5GHz) instead of 20 dBm.
--> Switched Domain to Panama, 20dBm used in both bands.
2) Some MAC Address aren't right. LAN1-4 are correct others are generic 00:00:00:00:00:05, 6, 7 and so on.
--> "nvram erase && reboot" does not fix this.

3) 160MHz channel width is offered on 5GHz, but selecting it does result in no wireless being transmitted at all. Even 2.4GHz ceases to work then and status page shows "unknown" on many values then.
Waited several minutes (for shared channels with flight/weather services) but did not come up on lower channels or upper channels.

The MAC addresses are not touched during a reset.

I have to delete them manually to restore the original value.

nvram unset XYZ_hwaddr
nvram commit
reboot

Thank you for this Smile
I gave it a try, but unfortunately after the reboot still similar device behaviour.
Before unset of everything related (except oet):

Code:

nvram show |grep -i 00:00:00
size: 27817 bytes (103255 left)
oet1_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
def_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
et0macaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04
wan_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:05
lan_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:05
wlan1.1_hwaddr=02:00:00:00:00:07
def_whwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
wlan0_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:06
wlan1_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:07
wl0_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:06

After unsetting, commit and rebooting:
Code:

vram show |grep -i 00:00:00
size: 27817 bytes (103255 left)
oet1_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
def_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
et0macaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04
wan_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04
lan_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04
wlan1.1_hwaddr=02:00:00:00:00:06
def_whwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
wlan0_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04
wlan1_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:06
wl0_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:04

This is just cosmetical, the device works. So no big thing.

@Per Yngve Berg: Also thank you!

Where do I set Antenna gain for this model?
I know I have seen this on other dd-wrt powered hardware of mine, but cannot find a gain setting in wireless and its advanced settings here, sadly :/

With 14 dBm 2.4GHz isn't really usable here. Ok, the "Panama Trick" solves this for now.

In build v3.0-r62778 the SSH terminal session prompt is suddenly totally different from what it used to be, and oddly different from the usual in Linux:

BusyBox v1.37.0 (2025-11-21 02:35:09 +07) built-in shell (ash)

┌─[✓]─[root@r7800:192.168.1.1]─[~]
└─

Three or four different colours are used for the various parts of the prompt.

I can't imagine I caused this myself somehow. Otherwise the build appears to work fine on my R7800 as far as I can tell. I expected a different kernel version as somebody mentioned it being upgraded, but probably kernels vary by router model.

@ArjenR49

The new prompt is a "feature" (see r62588).
