I accidentally bricked my MX4300 which had my USB external drive connected to by flashing a MX4200 firmware on it.

Anyway, I had a spare MX4200 and have it all setup but now what's happening is that when I plug in my USB drive into the port, it DD-WRT does not automatically detect it but what eventually happens is that the router will reboot on its own and it will pick up the drive. When the drive gets recognized, I lose the UI and lose internet network access. I have to unplug it in order to get my network/internet working.

I guess my question is, does the MX4200 have USB support or is the router having hardware issues?

Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r62036 std (08/08/25)

Your drive is probably corrupted. Had the same thing happen on my R7800 with the default Windows formatting. It ate itself and chkdisk didn't recover it.

I checked and plugged the external drive into one of the PC's and it works as expected. Not sure if it's the port freaking out or not.

I do have 2 more MX4200's that I can play around with and see what happens.

Well...somehow my MX4300 with a MX4200v2 firmware started working again.

I flashed it with the proper MX4300 firmware and everything is working again.
