My R9000 seems to have developed some type of memory issue. Sunday, it just quit routing. Now, the only way I can get it running is to factory reset it and not change anything. No WiFi, but Ethernet works. So, what is a "good" new router for DD-WRT these days? Can't get a new R9000. Found a R7800 online and ordered it just to have something. Is that a decent router? Anyone have a recommendation for an in-production router that supports DD-WRT?

True, R9000s are a rarity now. However, recently I've seen several XR700s (repackaged R9000) on eBay. Not cheap, though.

I had high hopes for Linksys MR7500, however it is still too buggy to run as the "main" router (USB bootloops in my case). Maybe MR7350?

Netgear R7800 and XR500 are both great, but may be a tad slow for fast Internet connections and/or VPN.

That's what I suspect. I did a lot of reading online and could not come up with a "newer", "fast" router. It seems that most new routers do not support flashing w/DD-WRT

I've been running the latest DD-WRT release on a Linksys MX4300 quite well. They are cheap and come with lots of RAM and a pretty decent CPU and USB port. They are also relatively cheap on eBay.

Edit: Btw, I'm back to DD-WRT after over a decade. I tried OpenWRT with this router, but DD-WRT seems to be working better, at least the latest version. It's nice to see a consistent/familiar interface even after all these years!

Thanks. I saw this one but could not determine how "old" it was.

You cannot go wrong with a MX4300. They are great routers and one of my two has been up for 44 days (22 days for the other, but I made some adjustments and had to reboot). They are both running a slightly older Dd-wrt version. r61711.

Hi,

I am happy with MR7500 as my main router, but I don't use the WiFi function. I am using eero 6 as WiFi AP coz I got it for free from my ISP.

I believe this was introduced in the last few years, later than the rest of related line of routers (like MX4200). They took the MX4200 SoC and doubled the emmc and RAM to 2GB. While Linksys, I believe, has stopped production of this router, it is not officially EOL. I'd say, it has one of the best SoCs out there, making it quite future proof with lots of RAM and overclock headroom (stock 1.4Ghz 4-core, DD-WRT can overclock to 2Ghz+ I think). The HW/specs should keep the router going for a relatively long time in future for typical usage. Also comes with 3 bands, 1 2.5Ghz 2x2, 1 5Ghz 2x2 and 1 5Ghz 4x4.

Thanks for the info, I will keep it mind.

My advice would be to first check the power supply which, more often than not, fails long before any electronic component inside the router is broken.

--->Rule about power supply.

Any brand power supply replacement will do so long as it has the same voltage output of 19V; same or higher amps (≥ 3.16A) as the original one.

Good luck.

Had the same q as you a few months ago.

Was looking at the newest and bestest and fastest and glitteriest.
However, after lots of research, ended up with Linksys MR7350. New enough to do what I need it to do and be able to use it in the future with updated connections etc, but old enough to be stable with DDWRT.

Running 62036 with no problems. Will update on the next one probably.

Very cheap on auction sites. Got a couple spares also just in case one gets bricked. All good.

EDITED.

+1 for R7800 or XR500 as those are still "quite" good...
I was willing to do the same and skipped the new Linksys routers line and went to,
Dynalink WRX36......I dont have ultra fast IPS plan so, this side cannot comment...yet...but,
im a happy camper...

R9000 PSU could do that type of crap, so change it..but it could also be radio hardware issue or ram corruption as you said...god knows... Cool

Are you using DD-WRT or VANILLA firmware? I left the default, DD-WRT, but wondered what you are using?
