Ok, this topic has probably been beaten to death but what is the deal with this router? All of the guides I've tried haven't worked. So I've come here to ask about this, maybe I'm doing something wrong? idk
I have very low experience with network devices, so go easy on me.
I've got this Linksys-Cisco WRT160N V3, and I'm trying to set it up to bridge/extend the wireless network of a Mercusys AX 1500 router, and also serve as a bridge from that same network to my PC trough Ethernet. (Arguably, that is the main reason I'm trying to do this, so if it cannot extend the wireless network, it would be okay as long as my PC gets internet access. I CAN'T run ethernet between the two routers, they are in different rooms.
I installed DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini on it, and I've been trying a lot of stuff to get it to work, but to no avail.
1. Status -> Wireless -> Site Survey
- Pick the wireless network from the Mercusys router
2. Wireless -> Basic Setup
- Wireless Mode: Repeater
- Wireless Network Mode: Mixed
- Add Virtual Interface with SSID different from Router (A). Let's call it SSID B
- The rest is left as is.
3. Wireless Security
- WPA2 Personal-AES. Same from original router
- WPA2 Personal-AES for SSID (B), but different key from (A)
4. Setup -> Basic Setup
- No changes to DHCP or any other field
Results: After doing this, (B) is able to correctly get a WAN Address which it displays on the corner, but my PC (Ethernet) doesn't get any access to the internet (Note: This PC doesn't do any wi-fi, which could solve all my issues. Only ethernet) If I do cmd /ping 8.8.8.8 it says something along the lines of "Answer from 192.168.1.1: Target host unreachable. Request timeout."
I've seen guides where this gets working as soon as they get the WAN address, and I've followed this instructions to a tee and it still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Somebody please help!!
Getting another router to use as a repeater is off the table. |
