Hey there,

Im new to this community and ddwrt and only have some basic knowledge about routers in general.
2 months ago i tried experimenting with my old R6400v1 and added some openvpn and was playing with some settings in the GUI and stuff like that.

1 month it was running completely fine but a couple weeks ago I ran into an issue where the router failed to start after I disconnected the powercable. When you connect the powercable and push the power button at the back the lights started to blink instantly and rappidly in a dim light like something in the startup process was going wrong. At that time its impossible to connect to the router because its obviously not running. So I thought I wrecked the router at first but somehow that wasnt the case. Several days later I tried to start it again and it worked perfectly fine. So I was experimenting what could be the issue and I figured out that the router will start when you empty the power of the powersupply attached to the cable. Or at least that is was helped me to get it running again. It doesnt seem to help to only unplug the cable from the powersupply to the router. Pushing the power btn with a disconnected powercable from the poweroutlet multiple times in a row seems to empty the poweroutlet and reset something so that it will start normally after that reset.

Does someone have a solution for this problem? Is it because the outdated firmware of the R6400v1 or could some activated settings be the problem?
Maybe there is a topic I didnt read here in the forum.
I now tried to reset to factory settings and till now it seems to have solved the problem.

Power supply failure?

Try another power supply

Dim LEDs can either mean power supply issue or you spiked the board (these things do not have all of the proper filter capacitors on the board itself). If the later, only option is RMA or e-cycle. Was there an electrical storm involved? Also, you don't necessarily need to bleed the power adapter, nor power up the router with it disconnected. That may have caused other issues.
