As long as somebody doesn't type saveenv, rebooting returns all variables to defaults anyway, so it's perfectly safe. Just don't EVER type saveenv!
Copy - do not ever type saveenv... makes sense with "save" in the command itself! _________________ GL-iNet GL-MT6000 (main gateway) - openwrt 24.10.snapshot

Is there anything I need to grab still for everyone? Router is still opened and CH340 is still connected.
However, I am not sure how to get back to the prompt with picocom... in order to enter commands that is on factory firmware running. if you want anything, please let me know and I will pull the information. I ask if I can be walked through it. _________________ GL-iNet GL-MT6000 (main gateway) - openwrt 24.10.snapshot

Already known. It's the same as all the dual-partition Linksys routers since the EA series depending on orientation of viewing perspective, if I'm not mistaken.

Is there anything I can grab from the serial connection when I flash back to DDWRT to help nail down the overheating issue? Also, I am not sure if this means anything for DDWRT; the wireless is stable on openwrt snapshot. Not nitpicking, only mentioning in case some of the code from that project could help simplify. I question if it would help though since they are using kernel 6.12.
If any data I can grab can help, I will not take much to flash back to stock then ddwrt again - but will have to be a weekend. MR5500 Router is just... sitting with the case still apart. _________________ GL-iNet GL-MT6000 (main gateway) - openwrt 24.10.snapshot

Does the MR5500 have Overclocking in the Administration tab? If so, maybe try setting that to the lowest possible setting and check your results. Work up clock speeds gradually if it becomes stable. _________________ - Linksys EA8500: I-Gateway, WAP/VAP 5ghz only. Features: VLANs, Samba, WG, Entware - r60xxx

On r60771 to r61202 the processor speed is left at DD-WRT defaults. Builds after r61202 do not boot and I only know the overheating from the serial connection. The MR5500 automatically switches to other partition and boots the build that is working, currently I favor r60771 as my fall back.
I highly doubt it, but I wonder if I can underclock the cpu on 60771 and then try to flash; if that will make any difference. I may try that later this week after I move off openwrt snapshot. At least openwrt snapshot proved my hardware is not fried as it is functioning fine as an AP.
just for documentation my MR5500 is running snapshot r30325-5e0fbca9b9 / LuCI Master 25.192.00988~4715c6a. this snapshot is running kernel 6.12.35 _________________ GL-iNet GL-MT6000 (main gateway) - openwrt 24.10.snapshot

Can confirm that my MR5500 also experienced not able to boot up with 60771 and 60791, never overclock the CPU. After numerous failure of booting up, I switched to run Openwrt snapshopts, the two MR5500 are running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r30302 and 30292, both have been very stable, no crash, no drop of wifi clients and have been running non-stop for over a week already.
