this is on an MX4300 with the 5/31/2025 patch 61557

I have my main router and im trying to roam with a tweak to my prior setup where 2 routers acted as waps with their own subnets bridged to the main router via cable...not mesh, but now i am trying to have the WAPS/VAPS all get dhcp by main router.

No vLAN or mesh for this...

Router A main in center of house. a WAP and a VAP on it
Router B is in back of house...wired a WAP and VAP also

want to have say jonny1 bridged on the wap 192.168.0.x so the client can get jonny1 in either room
brit1 on the vap britjonny unbridged and 192.168.1.x so the client can switch to britjonny and be on vpn from either room

for jonny1 I am trying to get it to roam room to room and that seems to work fine. because its bridged, it picks up the dhcp request and fills it and assigned the address.

For the Vap (brit) i have both routers set with it unbridged ajd 192.168.1.1/24 for the settings on both routers. When the main router is connected to the dhcp client is polled and assigned and it all works.

When I try the same thing from the non connected switch, it cant ever get the ipaddress.
I tried putting a multiple server on router 2 (192.168.1.1/24) but it is not transferring to the main router that basically haws the same settings.
If I try and manually assign the ips,not tagged and i can connect to the internet.

Brit request dont fill the dhcp, and even when i manually enter the address on the subnet I still cant get thru to internet.

I tried a few bridge combinations and tried dhcp forwarding from router 2 to the server on router 1 but havent figured out how to get that to work. Im missing something small, like maybe adding a bridge somewhere. but im not sure where.

Ill post screen shots later today but everying mostly set to standard.

router 1 primary router
AP n/g
40 wide
channel 1
ext ssid jonnyvap1
no changes to advanced sett9jgs except not bridged so 192.168.1.1/24
(main router is 192.168.0.1/24)

then on network page i have a multiple dhcp setup for 192.168.1.1/24 wlan1.1 on start 100

router/wap 2 router
AP n/g
40 wide
channel 1 or 6
ext ssid jonnyvap1
no changes to advanced sett9jgs except not bridged so 192.168.1.1/24
(main router is 192.168.0.1/24)

$$$$$$$$$$$
tried just having nothing but the route int the unbridged but that didnt work, it would not assign the ip. So tried adding dchp just like i did for the main raouter....routers are connected by a cable and everything else works peachy, so its something to do with getting the vap signal back and fourth from the second router. beause its a vap.

Ttied using forwarding but cant designate in on the primary for the incoming from secondary which should be hooking to the dhcp server via the subnet. I know the subnet all works cause on the primary it gives out the right address and subnet, but when connecting from what is basically a switch down a cable that happens to have a router attached, I cant get it to work.

I have tried bridging a few things too, but havent figured it out...Im sure im missing something simple....

I think in the past, as long as you started directing them to the same subnet, the dhcp would assign the ip and get connection but thats not here and its been years since I played with this.

then on network page i have a multiple dhcp setup for 192.168.1.1/24 wlan1.1 on start 100

Like I said, not too tricky, just trying to have a wap on each one point to the primary dhcp server and get the 0.0 subnet ip and then have the vaps on the two devices get an ip on the second ip subnet .

Ill put screenshots when I can later today. been going round and round
