for higher speeds you need an x86 - right.
but it's pointless to spend a lot of money on OpenVPN as wireguard is 3x faster. (as you know)

Thank you, but no OpenVPN is not pointless. OpenVPN works alot better with MTU issues for example if someone is connecting thru a OpenVPN router with allready a VPN on the computer.
Of the consumer-grade routers that can be flashed with DD-WRT, my understand is that Netgear R9000 would be likely one capable of reaching throughput nearing your desired 300mbps of traffic via OpenVPN tunnel.
