Hello!
I need a dd-wrt router that support OpenVPN troughput of at least 250-300Mbps.
Could you guys recommend a model?

Or most I buy a mini-PC to come up to this speeds?
For example the Protectli VP2430 N150? https://kb.protectli.com/kb/vp2430-hardware-overview/
Will even dd-wrt work with this machine?

Thank you for advice on routers.

newer IPQ807x routers with 2.2GHz clockspeed manage about ~250 Mbit
for higher speeds you need an x86 - right.
but it's pointless to spend a lot of money on OpenVPN as wireguard is 3x faster. (as you know)

If your wireguard server is constantly unavailable then you should look for another server, I have never had such problems myself.

Thank you, but no OpenVPN is not pointless. OpenVPN works alot better with MTU issues for example if someone is connecting thru a OpenVPN router with allready a VPN on the computer. Confused

Of the consumer-grade routers that can be flashed with DD-WRT, my understand is that Netgear R9000 would be likely one capable of reaching throughput nearing your desired 300mbps of traffic via OpenVPN tunnel.

Further discussion regarding R9000's VPN performance can be found here:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=322654

R9000 can be overclocked to 2000MHz frequency to aid in your quest. Make sure you keep an eye on R9000 overheating.

Good luck.

(My R9000's OpenVPN client reaches around 98mbps on a nominal 100mbps download subscription. I'm looking forward to upgrade to 1gbps in the later half of this year where I live).
