hi,
I am converting my old Athlon PC to DD-WRT using r58950. It successfully booted up with x64_full_vga image. However, it failed with x64_full_efi_vga image. Kernel panic encountered after "run /sbin/init as init process". Error message is "Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found" and suggested "Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/admin-guide/init.rst for guidance" and stating the system will reboot in 20 seconds.
Unfortunately, the admin-guide I located only provides some high-level reasons for the failure and no corrective procedures. Can anyone help, please. Note that I am a 200% Linux newbie.

Your old Athlon PC is probably not a UEFI machine (unless it's 2007 or newer?), and therefore you shouldn't use that image.

This PC has an AMD A10-7870K CPU. I set the bios to boot from UEFI drive only and it has been running Windows 10 and Kubuntu for awhile. I flashed another drive with the public efi image and it booted. It is just the full efi image that won't boot.
Just to mention one more thing, I put the full efi image DD-WRT in an AMD Ryzen 5 PC and encountered the same problem. Please help me figure this out. I might be retiring my Athlon PC soon and the Ryzen 5 PC will be the DD-WRT router.

Best.

I have not tried the efi version of this even though my system is a 4th Gen Intel i7 and could boot it. I use the non EFI versions without issues. I got plenty of HDD's I will test the latest EFI sometime soon to see if it's broken for me.

Try some of these settings in the meantime. Turn off CSM or compatibility support module. Reduce the video memory buffer to the smallest value possible. 16MB is more than enough for the job. Remove any graphics cards in the system. Use onboard or CPU graphics instead. I ran into kernel panics while trying to boot it with a system with a gaming video card installed. It was a Intel Q9950 with a 8800GTX or GTX 280 it doesn't like gaming cards and there is no need for any kind of gaming cards with DD-WRT. The DD-WRT loves just basic onboard graphics settings since it will not use any advanced video adapter features.

hi, I finally retire my old Athelon PC and put together one with Ryzen 3 3200G on a B450F motherboard. The problem booting with the x64_full_efi_vga image continues. The Error message is "Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found" and suggested "Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/admin-guide/init.rst for guidance" and stating the system will reboot in 20 seconds. I would like to know how I can fix the problem. I think it will help me understand Linux more.
To be clear, I am runing full_vga image currently with no problem.

I just tried the uEFI image of this. Did yours bring up an option to boot Memtestx86 and DD-WRT? It would default to DD-WRT. I didn't get far in booting since my test pc has a 760 GTX which is too much for DD-WRT for the graphics card side of things. I didn't see anything on the screen and it rebooted on it's own. Might been a Kernel panic too. I will have to slap it on my current DD-WRT pc to see if it's the same issue.

I used Phydisk write and the latest uEFI image. Secure boot is disabled in BIOS.

I think the Athlon series if its the socket AM3 or AM3+ it should work. I think those were on the verge of being the OLD bios or the uEFI type depending on the motherboard it has.
