X86_64 Poweroff command

As far as I can tell, Poweroff command is available in the X86-64 image. I can issue the "poweroff -f" command and the system will do some cleaning (messages scroll thru too fast but I do believe they are related to SCSI and Disks) before turning power off.
My question is this the proper way to poweroff and shutdown a x86-64 based DD-WRT system?
I don't really like to use the power switch, Wink
