I have 3 Linksys MX4300s, all running on r59964. One of the things that I have noticed is that the radio temps, especially WLAN2, my backbone, run warm (low 70s C). Are other MX4300 owners seeing this? Temps have been running warm since day one so it has nothing to do with current build. Can the radios handle this temp?

WLAN0 59.0 °C
WLAN1 68.0 °C
WLAN2 71.0 °C
nss system 62.0 °C
nsscore0 63.3 °C
nsscore1 62.7 °C
wireless subsystem phya0 60.7 °C
wireless subsystem phya1 61.7 °C
cpu0 63.0 °C
cpu1 62.3 °C
cpu2 61.7 °C
cpu3 62.0 °C
cpu global 62.3 °C
wireless subsystem phyb0 62.3 °C
wireless subsystem phyb1 60.7 °C

Does this one have just a heatsink or heatsink and fan, and if fan, does the fan control work...?

Just a VERY LARGE heat sink.

If it didn't have just the one USB port, I'd say add an appropriately-sized USB-powered fan pulling air up out of the thing.

I had a fan installed inside one of these whenever I first got them but figured it was not really necessary and removed it. There are plenty of power taps available internally which is what I used previously but laying a fan on the top would probably actually work pretty well. My fan was just just moving air sideways, which probably did absolutely nothing.

How do you keep wlan2 at 60.0 °C? Mine is always around the 70's and mounted in a room that's usually 68 °F. With not being able to find the max temps of these radios listed anywhere, 70's can be a little worrisome.

WLAN0 51.0 °C
WLAN1 63.0 °C
WLAN2 70.0 °C
...

The only difference I can see is that maybe running all three radios is the cause. I am only running two radios on two different mx4300s. The results I posted earlier were from my garage router, and it's much cooler in the garage, but even in the house (avg 70F), that router is low too:

WLAN0 59.0 °C
WLAN1 47.0 °C

What about wlan2 in the 70F house? I can understand 60 in the garage for sure. Summer is on the way and wondering if that's when it's time to put this router in a mini freezer (not really) so it doesn't hit 90C. I had 2 slim pc fans under my retired EA8500 and never broke 50C. But the MX4300 has no vents or holes on the bottom and is kinda built like a hot box. I don't see where a fan on top pulling air, would get air from in that regard. These are great routers but cooling seems lacking. Gonna throw a 120mm on top I guess and will report my findings. If it's good, I'll have to buy a white fan.

The bottom of the router is very well vented. Not airtight by any means. Even enough to run a serial cable through easily, on any side. A fan on top would work very well, I am sure about that without even testing it.

mine are running (including a mx4200) since last spring. so they survived the summer. and yes temperatures between 60 - 70 celsius are nothing unusual. but the card does throttle the power if its going to hot.

Yep lexridge you were correct. I never realized that little lip around the bottom was not sealed. WLAN2 was 75C with everyone home and the router feeding about 15 devices, before placing an Arctic Slim 120mm fan on top. To get rid of vibration noise I added 4 rubber feet and it's quiet. Attached are the temps with the fan running for about 30 mins. In the first 5 mins., it dropped 10C. Gonna buy a white fan now as this works great; way beyond expectations.
