Hi there,

I have tried various images trying to unbrick my router.

The TFTP method works however I am not able to unbrick it

Here is the output of TFTP.

Connection received from 192.168.0.86 on port 5067 [15/12 12:51:14.719]
Read request for file <ArcherC9v1_tp_recovery.bin>. Mode octet [15/12 12:51:14.719]
Using local port 50525 [15/12 12:51:14.738]
<ArcherC9v1_tp_recovery.bin>: sent 25416 blks, 13012991 bytes in 22 s. 0 blk resent [15/12 12:51:36.092]

Is my router bricked or I am using wrong image? I have tried many versions from dd-wrt and tp-link with no luck.

Each time Only the icon with the connected computer lights and the light with the two arrows (not sure if represents WPS) So I have read all lights should light up.

I think I am in a bootloop with tftpd client. Could someone point me to a good image with stripped bits or something that works

Thank you

I hardly recommend to get in touch with the serial connection method.

All of my C9v1 have a serial connector for quite a while now and it's such a big upgrade!

Hi,
I have done that several times now and the unbricking process is working well.
But every new beta I try the router will brick again.
I start with the 20221206_V3_44715. That will work, but I think a newer running version will exist, or not?
Is there a last version which will work well and that should be used?

TIA

Without feedback in the build threads on the C9 v1, serial logs of flash of "bad builds", there's nothing to say or do.

Hi,
I wrote, that the router is running with the latest beta 01-14-2025-r59171. But there are a few issues described in an other thread.

Can anybody give me an hint which latest beta is working passably?
I am very confused, that the latest version should be the 44715 from year 2020.

TIA

Do not take the router database information as the latest release.

DISCLAIMER

This database may not have up-to-date information and may even recommend a build which might cause issues. As such, you should check the device specific forum (Broadcom, Atheros, MediaTek, etc.) first before flashing any build recommended in this database. There you will find build specific topics that discuss any issues with a particular build/release. For more up-to-date firmware files, please visit the firmware faq.

YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN FRIENDLY AND FAIR NOTICE

Quote:
!!!! DO NOT USE THE ROUTER DATABASE !!!!

Unless you read, in a specific device wiki or a specific forum topic, specific initial flash instructions to use an older/very specific build for first time flashing you should always use the newest possible beta build (pay attention to factory-to-dd-wrt file names for first time flashing- where applicable in the folders).

The Router Database does NOT have newest recommended builds. Many of the recommended builds in the database are actually known to be very bad builds (40559 IS A BAD BUILD for many many routers). Always go to the appropriate hardware device forum and look at the recent build reports to see if you can find your router listed/reported. If not, the first recommendation by most moderators will be to use the latest available beta build. READ READ READ and use Search when in doubt. TL:DR IS NOT AN EXCUSE!

BUT NEVER EVER USE THE ROUTER DATABASE.

Hi,
strait that way I went. But the problem is, that there isn't a special thread where the experiences are collected by router type. I can read trough all beta build threads, but there is no verified collection for a special router. All comments and experiences are allways for some special routers.
And so it is extremly tricky to find an really running version.
It is not my place to make wishes, but it would be nice to have some stabile marked versions ervery year and not to search all beta versions.

But by the way, I booted the Archer C9 V1 with the latest beta 01-14-2025-r59171 yesterday evening and let it running until now. And I do not know why, all problems from yesterday are gone and I do not know why.
I think the less memory is the problem for that router, the last action I have done yesterday was to remove the VPN Wireguard settings. And that will be to much for that old hardware.
But the screen "Memory - Available/Total" tells me that 125304KiB are available from 131072. I have to interpret from the other side. It is 96% used I fear.
TIA
Dirk

Available / Total is just that. Then the meter just below that shows you how much free memory is available...

...also, there IS a special thread, but it became a cumbersome circular discussion cesspool because people chose not to search, but post.

All of my C9v1 have a serial connector for quite a while now and it's such a big upgrade!

Hi I went exactly this way and I was able to recover my router with these two images:

# flash -noheader 192.168.0.66:12.bin flash0.trx

# flash -noheader -offset=0xfe0000 192.168.1.66:mtd3.bin flash0

However now I am not able to put dd-wrt on it I have used the latest

factory-to-ddwrt.bin from the webconsole

Any recommendations? How can I put now dd-wrt on it? It bricks it when I use the webconsole and with the serial I am not sure for the command parameters of the "flash" command other then the file name.

From the source pdf guide for that method of recovery:
Quote:
3.7 Next steps
Being now on the stock firmware you can either update to the latest official firmware or go back to DD-WRT.
r27506 factory-to-ddwrt worked for me (even without 30-30-30 hard reset).

WARNING: Do NOT 30-30-30 this router.

I have not done 30/30/30

I have used the latest stock US image

archer_c9v1_us-up-ver3-17-1-P1[20210107-rel55552].bin

It worked fine no issues.

And then I have used the latest factory-to-ddwrt.bin

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2025/02-02-2025-r59468/tplink_archer-c9v1/

And it bricks my router. Version r59468

Should I try NOT to upgrade to the latest stock (I think the 12.bin and mtd3.bin contain image from 2014 That is what I recall seeing in the web menu of the stock firmware) and go straight to the latest factory to dd-wrt or use an earlier version of factory-to-ddwrt let's say from 2019 and the update to the latest? I want to use dd-wrt.

We'd need serial console output to see what is going on with flashing from latest TP-Link firmware, but I would imagine that there's a 3rd party firmware lockout or some such. Please refer to the device wiki information specific to the V1:

OK Thank you !

I can provide the serial console output when I try to flash it with dd-wrt firmware

what parameters should I use in order to flash it?

# flash -noheader 192.168.0.66:factory-to-ddwrt.bin flash0.trx

Do I need the "-noheader" and "flash0.trx" or any other options?

Apparently if I do it from the web interface if fails and goes to the bootloop which I can see in the serial console if I don't interrupt it with Ctrl-C

EDITED !!!! I was able to install dd-wrt

I used one from 2020

r42819 (03/30/20)

Please consider flashing a more current release and providing feedback in the appropriate build release thread(s). Thanks.
