it has prob been asked a lot before but as tech always changes i shall ask again with the risk of being laughed out the classroom

i'm looking for a router without wifi that has at least one sfp port, prefer if it has 2

no wifi because i will place AP's arround the house anyway to get good coverage at both floors, here my plan is to place 2 AP's at each end of the house on each floor, so 4 in total

router is at one corner of the house and my plan is to branch out fiber cable's halfway each side of the house and place a switch here with 8 sfp ports so i could opt if i want to continue with optical or go copper to the end point/machines/ap's

for those 2 switch's i had Mikrotik CRS310-1G-5S-4S+IN in mind and if the router do not have 2 sfp ports an Mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN next to the router

now both of those switch's are sold as router switch and it has dual boot option between routeros or swos...

i'm confused here, can i switch between it being a switch or router.... and do i even need dd-wrt? or would dd-wrt give a simpler interface?

Netgear R9000 or XR 700 are both, known to me with SFP port but rather useless in your case as they only have x1 SFP only...you many need a mini PC with powerful CPU and x2 or more SFP ports than run DDWRT x86 or x64...

To answer the question with respect to DD-WRT, there are no routers without wifi that have an SFP+ port currently that I'm aware of. Still need to add a few newly supported devices to the Wiki, though. The R8900, R9000, and XR700 all only have one SFP+ port.

Removed unnecessary link cruft. Is that device confirmed working with DD-WRT? Report?

One thing you're absolutely right is constant changes of advancements in IT.

However, it remains true that the more a particular product is bought by consumers, the more sellers will join in, creating more competition, and the result is better outcomes for consumers such as lower prices and/or better features of products.

A case in point: You can get a fan-less smart switch of 4x 2.5Gb ports and 2x SFP+ ports for well under US$50. See:

https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-HORACO-2.5GbE-Managed-Switch-8-Port-2.5GBASE%2525252dT-Net.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.search.0

('Serve-The-Home has a general review for smart switches' performances in this group).

With Netgear R9000 having 1x SFP+ port and its Wifi turned off, it's the best-value solution in your case if my reading of your post is accurate.

And do come back and tell us if you spend your hard-earned money wisely!
