I have try this guide
https://www.expressvpn.com/support/vpn-setup/manual-config-for-dd-wrt-router-with-openvpn/
on Netgear R7800 (Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r58627 std (11/02/24))

But I simply can't get it to work. Does anyone have a good guide?

WireGuard It's too advanced for me.

There are more menus in the latest version of dd-wrt than shown in the video from the link, there showing how to setup ExpressVPN

Like most VPN provider videos and tutorials, it's woefully out of date. Just use the import features on the OpenVPN client w/ the config file they provide, add username/password, and hit Apply. 99% of the time it will just work. On occasion it might require additional tweaking, such as adding the disable-dco directive to the Additional Config field.

Easier or as easy as OVPN.

I consistently get 420 - 475 Mb/s from my 500 Mb/s pipe. Very Happy

Compared to ~ 100Mb/s with OVPN.

The choice is easy.

My advice was to use the guides with information how to setup and not an outdated video.

The DDWRT OpenVPN client setup guide even has a paragraph about Express VPN (with advice from @eibgrad)
