Hello or did numerous tests and when I tried to restore to the version stored as a backup either the router crashed on the BR0 network or failed to load the file. In the end I had to reload, for each test, the configuration from scratch. Also, sometimes, resetting the router disappeared the swicht menu and the only way to reset it was to reload the firmware from scratch. This has resulted in a considerable loss of time. I hope you solve these problems.
Thank you.

The fact that the ‘Switch Config’ tab is missing after a factory reset is completely normal and has always been the case.
After a factory reset, simply restart the router a second time and the tab will be there again.
I have written this so many times and done it 100x.

I also make regular backups and restore them - absolutely no problems.
The only time I had problems was when restoring a backup caused the router to soft-brick.
This was due to incorrect/duplicate MAC addresses in the NVRAM.
After deleting the wrong MAC addresses, I recreated the VAPs and then I was able to load the backups again without any problems.

I mention this because you have also had problems with duplicate MAC addresses and are constantly fiddling with the router configuration.

I also dont have a problems with backup and restore, do e this recently number of times…
the only thing that may cause err is you may just have a crappy backup save file …
as egc used to say junk in and junk out…of you do something completely wrong…so if there
are no reports on it its only on your side….i currently reset/restored R7000, R7800, R9000 ,
XR 500 and my Dynalink wrx36 as i was experimenting with some vlan configs and some other stuff
so those platforms are fine…
If you cannot provide details to be able for others to recreate the issue than ive no idea how you my get help…

Yes, I'm trying to optimize the performance of my router and customize it according to some of my needs. How do you completely wipe NVRAM and avoid this problem? Why are duplicate MAC addresses left (if the question makes sense)?

MAC addresses are generally not deleted (factory reset)
MAC addresses are also not restored by backups.

Therefore, incorrect addresses and superfluous addresses are retained for all eternity.
Unless you delete them manually.

I have deleted all MAC addresses manually on my r7800.
And then restarted the router

nvram show | grep hwaddr

nvram unset wlan1.1_hwaddr
nvram unset wlan1.2_hwaddr
.....
nvram commit
reboot

As I said, I deleted them all because all kinds of superfluous MAC addresses were saved due to various test configurations.
This works on the 7800 but can be dangerous for other routers.

MAC addresses on R7800 (and some other routers) are usually stored on undelatable partition and those
are read and fetched to the firmware after nvram erase...and as ho1Aetoo noted when you experiment with adding interfaces (vaps and ect) those MAC's may be a left over, even after reset/nvram erase so, it wont hurt to manually delete those using nvram unset ...

Even bridges and interfaces may stay/remain/left over after nvram erase..to check-->

Code:
nvram show | grep hwaddr

eth1.3_hwaddr=aa:bb:cc:cc:dd:cc

and to remove those use nvram unset command and interface name

nvram unset eth1.3_hwaddr

just bear in mind if you delete an existing and base interface that shouldn't be deleted than you will get into a trouble...and reset will not help so be extra carefull

There may be some interfaces that look like that and should not be deleted/unset!!
def_hwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00
def_whwaddr=00:00:00:00:00:00

General safe rule is to delete/unset only those that you created !!!

and to check for, add or remove bridges --> https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Brctl_command

In practice it would be better not to touch anything for the problem remains. It would be useful, as a possible correction, to provide in the "factory default" procedure a system to eliminate what can or cannot be eliminated directly, without user intervention. It is complicated for the user to know what can be deleted or not. I hope it can be done as soon as possible.
