Hi all, probably everyone already understand from the header what is it all about...
I have MR 9000 as the main router plus several WHW0301 nodes. I was searching the forum and the net for more clear information about DD-WRT and mesh networking. About woud I be able to create the same mesh home network after flushing main router MR 9000 with DD-WRT?
Many opinions many controversial and contradictory answers I'm a bit lost and confused.
So I decided to ask main DD-WRT community, will this setup work, and what kind of pitfalls I might I face?

Thanks

I assume your WHW03v1s are running stock OEM firmware. I don't believe Linksys uses 802.11s for its Velop MESH, or maybe a customized version of it. You will need to put OpenWRT on those whw03s to get 802.11s as DD-WRT is not available for these routers. This should allow them to connect to your MR9000 once running dd-wrt.

This might be a good place to start for getting OpenWRT on your whw03v1s.

How well will it work? I dunno. You would have to try it and see. I have a few whw03v1s, but not using them in a MESH. WDS only.

I doubt it...
More to that, I 'm using a bit modified version of WHW0301. It's WHW0301CF, linksys produced modified version of it for one of the UK ISP "Community Fibre"

Probably it don't. I know that the retail version that you've own, works with (IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11ac) bands. But I have no clue what WHW0301CF capable off.

Well, i have to find out how it works, I thought it's not so reliable and secure as a mesh network

No idea about that, but it's probably exactly the same regarding h/w. It's just rebranded I'd guess.

Should be the same as these are common bands/protocols for this era of router. This also has nothing to do with 802.11s which is a mesh only protocol.

802.11s should be every bit as secure as it uses (only) WPA3 for security between nodes by design.

Thanks for your help and information, I think I'll leave it as is. I realized that when I reflash I'll run into problems and unnecessary headache, plus DD WRT firmware for MR9000 only in beta version, so yeah...
Well thanks anyway, and all the best!
