Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r27506 (07/09/15) std
router TP-Link WR841N (no idea what chipset)

Changing vpn provider (because smartdnsproxy has been slow for a couple of months now), trying out surfshark
Instructions page https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003086114-How-to-set-up-OpenVPN-on-DD-WRT-router

I am on the Services-VPN tab, where I am meant to enable a Open Vpn client, but it's not available as an option (just en/disble PPTP server and client)
and similarly I am meant to add quite a lot of lines to Additional Config, but there is no place to do it
This has me lost
OpenVPN Server/Daemon
Additional Config:
To push routes to clients add 'push "route IP mask gateway"', to push DNS/WINS add 'push "dhcp-option DNS (or WINS) IP"' to the config.
client connect directory:
When USB or JFFS is mounted to /jffs, scripts will be called from /jffs/etc/openvpn/ccd/

I've added a startup script
echo "USERNAME
PASSWORD" > /tmp/openvpncl/user.conf
/usr/bin/killall openvpn
/usr/sbin/openvpn --config /tmp/openvpncl/openvpn.conf --route-up /tmp/openvpncl/route-up.sh --down-pre /tmp/openvpncl/route-down.sh --daemon

rebooted but can't see any difference

I'm all at sea here, any help please

PS I like using html tags, I wrote my first website in 1994 using notepad

If no openvpn is available in the ‘VPN’ tab, this is usually because the router has too little flash memory and therefore the firmware for such routers has limited functions.

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

Transferring this thread to the appropriate forum

This looks like a 4 MB flash 32 MB RAM device so not very useful.

If you insist on using this device at leasht upgrade to the latest build (58568) and reset to defaults after you have upgraded.

It is quite possible that this 4 MB device does not have OpenVPN, it might have WireGuard though (under the Tunnels tab see in the drop down box if WireGuard is choosable).
Both WireGuard and OpenVPN docs are stickies in the Advanced Networking forum
