A travel router (GL-MT3000 Beryl AX) has been in my possession for last several weeks. And I've been playing with it, including a one-week trip where i used it to hook up to the Airbnb's wifi.

In short, it's a terrific router for frequent travelers and family users on vacation. Neat, secured and so easy to manage when away from home.

Despite being a keen user and long-time supporter of DD-WRT routers, I think GL-iNet routers running OpenWRT represent a formidable challenge to those running DD-WRT as 3rd-party f/ware in future for two simple reasons:

1. While leveraging OpenWRT as firmware, GL-iNet has produced its own GUI for OpenWRT to make its routers much more user-friendly for users. Like DD-WRT, compared to OpenWRT's modular option approach which is rather intimidating in my short time with OpenWRT GUI when I was short on time. Advanced users can still exploit their deep knowledge of OpenWRT on GL-iNet routers via a separate tab though.

2. [My reading between the lines is] With its design team on its hardware specs, working together with in-house software team utilizing OpenWRT, at the drafting stage, GL-iNet routers have an upfront advantage over many other brands that were running DD-WRT f/ware.

If I were to put my old hat of business analyst on, I'd say that competition should be seen as motivational factors in keeping good players striving for even better still. My favorite DD-WRT development team included.

That's how humans progressed from cave-dwellers to living in comfortable houses today.

DDWRT has a firmware for GL-iNet AR150.. i used to have one of this little fellows...for a while, than left it as a present in the small hostel i visited, as the chap asked me if i can help,(i got it from a boot sale for 10 quit)...
DDWRT has a great fleet of routers that are supported...and few new AX routers support is coming too...

Back in the days as far as i remember DDWRT was LinksysWRT series official stock firmware...than stock FM of something else...no idea where the business model went to ATM...but, it would be really nice if BS has more business clients...and im sure he does...but, in comparison with OpenWRT and its developers team, DDWRT deff needs more people on the dev's side...and despite the fact its one a man show BS is doing very well, so far so good...

If im not wrong, Netgear R9000 was running OpenWRT version for stock, no idea if its still on it...
Nowadays they have Duma OS thing...that to be honest, sucks...

I think its the gaming series of routers by netgear that are making DumaOS look bad. I seen two XR500 routers from two different people that started having firmware problems. When I got a hold of one of them, I could not load OpenWRT or dd-wrt on it. So I concluded that it must be nand chip problems and not actaully dumaOS itself.

Any horse, that router does look cool. I checked a few pictures online of the thing and it supposedly has POE support? I personally like routers that have that features. very convenient. Kind of like mikrotiks routers where they have both DC and POE support. I wanted to donate a mikrotik unit to brainslayer but german customs, in short, said "no".

FWIW, I've been through four XR500 routers now, attempting dd-wrt on each. The three made in Thailand worked fine. (Origin label on bottom.) The one made in China would not restore a backup file made on a Thai XR500. I noticed it also had the ethernet port labeling in back reversed relative to the Thai XR500s.

I confess I can't recall whether the Chinese XR500 flashed dd-wrt without obvious issues. I believe so, but my brain is getting a little old for reliable memory. (I first learned to code, the basics anyway, in 1971.)

I don't think there is much interest in MediaTek, but you would acquire these via Amazon.de or some other European market vendor to ship to BrainSlayer to avoid return by German Customs and then ensure that the folks in Bensheim sends them to Dresden.
