I have an iPhone and a UK O2 sim card. I'm trying to enable WIFI Calling from Bermuda via a Netgear R6800 running DD-WRT v3.0-r47282, with NordVPN OpenVPN configured as per (to a UK server using UDP) https://support.nordvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/20308623061265-DD-WRT-setup-with-NordVPN

On the iPhone I have enabled Airplane Mode, turned on WIFI, turned off Location Services for WIFI calling, and turned on WiFI Calling. Up until recently WIFI calling seemed to work - the O2 WIFI Calling indicator appeared in the top left of the screen, but it no longer seems to work.

When I run an Ookla speed test to a London UK server, the ping is about 117ms.

How can I debug this? Thanks

What changed?

Or did you not change anything and it suddenly stopped working?

I don't believe I changed anything - it just seems to have stopped working.

Well then it is not a settings or DDWRT problem if you did not change anything.

Maybe something changed on the NordVPN side?

Ask their support and/or try another server

NordVPN support recommended trying a different NordVPN UK server. I tried many of them and I wasn't able to get an O2 WifiCall connection on any.

I signed up for Proton VPN and followed the instructions here: https://protonvpn.com/support/vpn-router-ddwrt/

.. and I was immediately able to get a WifiCall connection.

One more strike against Nord.
They keep piling up.

Have not used Proton OVPN but plenty happy with their WG. Plenty of servers fairly close and no disconnects.

Speed is usually all this 7800 can do.
Not sure what else to ask for.

Not cheap but you get what you pay for (PIA,Nord, who have no wireguard for routers).

This conversation probably belongs in "Advanced Networking" sub and Marked as "Solved".

Thanks for the info, I will try it and I hope it works for me too.

I see I'm not the only one with this issue. I’ve been running some tests and I noticed that NordVPN blocks Wi-Fi calling from two of my carriers. On the other hand, I ran the same tests with ProtonVPN and Mullvad and it works. The issue is still on NordVPN side. I give up with their customer support, I’ve been explaining to them in several emails that the issue is on their side, but they just read scripts and make nonesense questions.

Thanks for confirming this issue is on NordVPN's side.

NordVPN was already not on my short list for VPN providers because they do not support WireGuard on the router (they do not hand out a WG config file, you can do it with a workaround via Linux though)
