Router/Version: Asrock G10
File/Kernel: r56941
Previous/Reset: r56490 - without reset + with reset (few attempts)
Mode/Status: Not updated - stay on old version r56490
Issues/Errors: Web update success - but old version start - r56490

I try to update by command:
Code:
write file.bin linux
reboot

but the same issue with update. No errors but old version.

Second router ASrock G10 router get stack on r55779 and wouldn't update on r56941.

Code:

root@ASRock:~# write /tmp/dd-wrt-webupgrade-r56941.bin linux

Looks like it wrote to flash just fine. Did the reboot command work or did you need to power cycle the router? Did you clear your browser cache and/or check via ssh? Limited perspective information...

I checked via SSH and welcome message before password attempt shows below:
Code:
DD-WRT v3.0-r56490 std (c) 2024 NewMedia-NET GmbH
Release: 05/24/24
Board: ASRock G10

I use reboot command and it works and reboot without visible issue on the router.
I checked also by web Browser. Ctrl+F5 refresh router web page in Firefox but the same old version.
I used that file for update https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2024/06-19-2024-r56941/asrock-g10/dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin
Any ideas what kind of log could I checked to find were is the problem?
Is it possible that boot loader read image from different address during start but image is written in other place?

What is the output of:
Code:
cat /proc/mtd

and
Code:
ubootenv get boot_part

as I believe this may be a dual-partition device.

Not sure if there was an issue with ubootenv and other bits and pieces on 56490, but you can try writing to linux2, then rebooting.[/code]

I use below command on second router (wificlient):
Code:
write /tmp/dd-wrt-webupgrade-r56941.bin linux2

is it correct command?

Linux partitions looks the same like for first router:
Code:
root@wificlient:~# cat /proc/mtd
dev:    size   erasesize  name
mtd0: 00c80000 00020000 "qcadata"

mtd8: 00040000 00020000 "nvram"
mtd9: 00040000 00020000 "hwconfig"

second router (wificlient) stay on previous version: v3.0-r55779

I try run below commands:
Code:
root@wificlient:~# write /tmp/dd-wrt-webupgrade-r56941.bin linux
[flash] : Flash is NAND
[flash] : freeram=[374665216] bufferram=[0]
[flash] : The free memory is enough, writing image once.
[flash] : linux2: CRC OK (0x3E45083B)
[flash] : Writing image to flash, waiting a moment...
[flash] : Flash is NAND

Code:
root@wificlient:~# write /tmp/dd-wrt-webupgrade-r56941.bin linux2
[flash] : Flash is NAND
[flash] : freeram=[375693312] bufferram=[0]
[flash] : The free memory is enough, writing image once.
[flash] : linux2: CRC OK (0x3E45083B)
[flash] : Writing image to flash, waiting a moment...
[flash] : Flash is NAND

Strange is that now if I use linux or linux2 I see that "linux2: CRC OK"

There were probably changes made. So did writing to linux2 fix the problem / did webflash on wifi client device work?

It does not solve the problem Sad What could I do more to investigate/solve that issue?
Maybe that part of log from ASrock G10 Device helped (my first device with Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r56490 std (05/24/24)). I do not write nothing to linux2 - just only write to linux.

Well, I have received no reply from the developer, and there is no easy way to override this issue without serial adapter connected to the UART header on the mainboard of the router as best I can tell. It seems there is no way to TFTP flash without serial access that I can find.

Now I have some technical difficulties with pin soldering so it must wait some time with TFTP update.
I've noticed that below commands gives information about boot partition equal 1
Code:
root@ASRock:~# strings /dev/mtd8|grep -i boot
bootpartition=1
manual_boot_nv=0
boot_fail_keepip=0
radiooff_boot_off=0
boot_fail_open=0
no_bootfails=0
boot_wait=on
boot_fails=0

Code:
root@ASRock:~# nvram get bootpartition
1

I've read that for both partitions are used one nvram - am I right?

If is technically possible that below command help to change boot partition 2?
Code:
nvram set bootpartition=2

I remind that u-boot do not show info about boot partition:
Code:
root@ASRock:~# ubootenv get boot_part
a_pEnv->crc = ffffffff
crc32 = 619d86db
CRC failed for uboot env
Can't find item from the uboot environment variable.

and in dmesg see
Code:
[    2.132374] bootconfig upgrade 0
[    2.132380] bootconfig name 0:APPSBL
[    2.132383] bootconfig primaryboot 0
[    2.132385] bootconfig upgraded 0
[    2.132388] bootconfig name rootfs
[    2.132390] bootconfig primaryboot 1
[    2.132392] bootconfig upgraded 0
[    2.132395] primary boot device is 1
[    2.132397] bootconfig name kernel
[    2.132399] bootconfig primaryboot 0
[    2.132401] bootconfig upgraded 0

[    2.133073] ubi0: attaching mtd7
[    2.470338] ubi0: scanning is finished

[    2.479361] ubi0: attached mtd7 (name "linux2", size 48 MiB)

If nvram method works what should I do additionally to avoid bricking my router?
e.g.
Code:
root@wificlient:~# write /tmp/dd-wrt-webupgrade-r56941.bin linux2

Does it have any sense to run below command when in nvram is information to use partition 1
Code:
root@ASRock:~# ubootenv set boot_part=2

I additionally noticed in logs some I/O errors. Could that issue be related with that?
Code:
[    7.519997] I/O error, dev mtdblock4, sector 255 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 1 prio class 2

ubootenv is broken on some routers with the latest builds. You can use this command to check for your boot partition:
Code:

# fw_printenv | grep boot_part=
boot_part=1

and to change it use:
Code:

fw_setenv boot_part 2

Then check it using the first command.

Be sure you know what you are doing before changing this. You may not be able to boot again if the alternate partition is borked. Then you would be stuck with needing your serial port and tftp.

EDIT: Note that on many routers, simply toggling the power switch three times will change the boot partition automatically (on boot failure).
