Well I did the upgrade conected via ethernet cable as I always do on my R7800, and everything looked as always, but now I cannot access web interface anymore and no Internet access. I can't get back into the router.
I tried rebooting but still no Joy.
Is there anyway to get back into the router without the dreaded Paper Clip erase all and restart from scratch?

sometimes you can access the router via telnet/ssh even when webgui is inaccessible. If you're able to do so, you may be able to backup the nvram and restore after reset to default.
However, it's a good practice to erase all and set up from scratch after a while, especially when you encounter issue such as "cannot access web interface anymore and no Internet access" while others do not. When you're in that situation, you realize it's best to have the human-readable backup that you can quickly copy/paste the settings. One option is print-screen, but it's tedious. Another better option: you can save all your current settings using this browser addon: Save Page WE for FireFox or Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge (supports copy/paste unlike screenshot, supports original layout instead of paginated PDF)
Attached are extension config & sample pages.
Advanced users can create one txt file containing all dd-wrt webgui urls and tell Save Page WE to auto save all urls in that txt file with one single click.
(I'm not the author of that extension)
If you have no time to set up from scratch and prefer to use the nvram backup, you can set up a callback script in easyddup so that it helps you auto export & copy the nvram file to USB drive or cloud storage before upgrading.

p/s 1: someone may jump in and give you a list of supported web browsers which doesn't have Chrome/Edge.
p/s 2: someone may jump in and ask you to report findings with steps needed to reproduce, configuration, clients, output, logs.
p/s 3: someone is pissed off because the new build thread is fragmented.
Thank You IONK. Much Appreciated. That's a lot of information I was unaware of.
I recently did a fresh install so was hoping not to have to start from scratch again so soon.
I will try Telnet and see if it connects. If it does I will ask how to do the Backup of the NVRAM. If not :*( scratch
My setup is very basic, only thing is using Wireguard for my VPN, otherwise pretty vanilla.

Try not to get confused by the typos below, but:

At least someone was paying attention. /eyeroll You should be able to change the name of the file, obviously, but getting it off the router would require scp or webUI access. If ssh is not enabled, you would need to do an:
Code:
nvram set sshd_enable=1
nvram commit
reboot
On reboot, the key will be generated and then you can use WinSCP or other means to download the file after you've created it.
Code:
nvram show > /tmp/somebackup-name-date-build-version.txt

Thanks dale_gribble39
Fingers crossed I can Telnet in.
I will have to wait until Work :*( is done for the day to try.

This happened to my R7800 this morning too. Could not access the web interface or the Internet. SSH was enabled, but would not accept the connection. Telnet was disabled. Had to resort to manually resetting the router. After a little experimentation and manually reconfiguring, I narrowed the problem down to the Shortcut Forward Engine setting. If enabled the router would be inaccessible. Leaving SFE disabled appears to work as normal.
With enough reboots it came back such that ssh and web GUI were working.
This is the reason why dual boot routers are super nice. After three boot failures (or three power cycles), it auto switches back to the previous boot partition. Love my EA8500s! No such thing on R7800s (which is a darn shame). Netgear missed the boat on that one. _________________ - Linksys EA8500: I-Gateway, AP/VAP 5ghz only r57753: Features: WDS-AP, VLANs, Samba, WG, Entware

You can access the web interface for only a brief moment than put in your login and password.
I had to do this five times before it worked.
After I could login I did a "Restore to Factory Defaults" via the Administrator menu -> factory defaults and afher that it seems to work fine but time will tell.
I did not test it any further and rolled back to build 55677 for the moment, not that it is stable but it stays online for about 5 to 8 days before it re-boot itself. _________________ Regards,

I didn't experience any GUI issues...but...i would never use the GUI restore to default option nor reset on update GUI option...as, it plays funny on me sometimes...its a general rule for me to use either reset button (always works well) or nvram erase via CLI (my favorite)...
Just did a button reset on one 'new' R7800 that i flashed for a friend (yesterday)...didn't have any GUI issues with pale-moon browser i use...
and yes on crap reset you may need few more resets until GUI comes out ok...i haven't had that for ages...
As far as NSS cores in action...my ISP speed is very low and will not see any advantage...however i didn't see any VPN speed increase, but it wont be affected by NSS i guess...for the record i don't have samba to check _________________ Atheros
