Until anything more powerful is supported by current releases, the following sticky is provided that you obviously overlooked:

Sticky: What’s the best DD-WRT router to buy currently?

The Netgear R9000 and the gateworks GW6504 are the most powerful SOHO routers supported by dd-wrt.
However, both are long EOL and outdated.

If you are looking for something more powerful, only x86 is supported by dd-wrt.

openwrt supports tons of other powerful platforms

such as https://openwrt.org/inbox/toh/sinovoip/bananapi_bpi-r4

costs ~150€ and has far more modern hardware

WRT3200 = Dual Core ARMv7 Cortex-A9 @ 1,8Ghz
R9000 = Quad Core ARMv7 Cortex-A15 @ 1,8Ghz
GW6504 = Quad Core ARMv8 ThunderX @ 1,5Ghz
BPi-R4 = Quad Core ARMv8 Cortex-73 @ 1,8Ghz

so I don't know what you're talking about, but the routers I mentioned are far more powerful than your WRT3200

By the way, according to benchmarks, the BPi-R4 achieves 1.2Gbit wireguard throughput and your WRT3200 only 400Mbit

I added the info about GW6504 to the sticky. These topics are superfluous most of the time, because it's been asked many times since I (re-)joined this community in 2018, which is why there's a Wiki and there are stickies on the subject that we try to maintain current information in as best as possible and when the mood hits.

so, far x86/64 platforms only...otherwise as a power, for 1Gbit speed, R9000 (XR700) is fine.. than again VPN/WG will take a toll..and consider it has a crappy overheat issues, its not the best..(mine is still fine)... Razz

may be once BS adds support of some AX router with 2.5gibt wan, than will be a new suggestion Razz

in fact I'm opting for the R9000...But do you think it's worth buying or should I wait for a more current router?

The number of devices that have been added since 2021 hasn't warranted much updating. However, if you noticed the part of the op that now reads:
Code:

you would've known it's been updated since it was originally posted. Also, I am quite sure that a forum search would've corroborated this.

No, that wouldn't serve any purpose because of "freedom of discussion" decried by certain folks. Speaking of:

Which is why I added a reserved post in the sticky for AX routers.

Take care now.
