Welcome to Atheros r55416 beta release thread for reporting, feedback to developers and community benefit.
Please do not flash builds until installation is understood, risks involved and device specificrecovery methods.
Avoid discussions, create threads for questions, general problems or use search; this thread is not for support.
List router model & version or revision, operating & wireless modes & exact filename/firmware image flashed.
CLI Flash: 'cd /tmp' then 'wget {file URL}' (httponly) or 'curl -O {file URL}' (http, https, ftp) 'write {file} linux' then 'reboot'.
Issues, observations, and/or workarounds reported:
• WebUI: Clear history or use a portable. Temporary cache bypass: Ctrl+F5, Cmd+Shift+R or new private window/incognito.
• Please report findings with steps needed to reproduce, configuration, clients, output, logs and important information below!
Important:
• Detail issues & relevant configs, logs: syslog klog 'dmesg' 'cat /tmp/var/log/messages' nvram set console_debug=1, serial.
• Firewall NAT: 'iptables -vnL' 'iptables -t nat -vnL' 'iptables -t mangle -vnL' & 'cat /tmp/.ipt'. Debug Analyze: stracetcpdump.
• Gremlins: reboot. cold boot. Reset & reconfigure not restore backup. Search Trac & discuss in forum before opening tickets.
• Include operating & wireless modes (e.g. Gateway, Router, AP, SB, WDS, Mesh) and applicable configurations to reproduce.

XR500 upgraded from build 55363 using easyddup.
Writing to a USB share on a thumbdrive causes the router to reboot.
SMB 3.11, no encryption, username for the share defined in the DD-WRT gui.
Just creating a new file on the share without a user given name works OK (as seen from the workstation which has the smb share open).
Subsequently deleting the empty file is also OK.
The new file can be opened in an editor (on a workstation having the smb share open), but storing it (with some content) made the router reboot immediately.
The same error occurred in previous recent builds. No change. Reported (for previous builds) by others, too.
As a workaround editing a file on a thumbdrive/NAS connected to the router in an ssh session works fine.
Otherwise no problems. Used as a gateway and wifi access point with one isolated guest network defined in the GUI. DNS services for both LANs provided by a PiHole server running Unbound and Wireguard as well.
Easyddup.sh still ends in the sysrq(?) error, but it doesn't pose a problem.

Router/Version: Netgear R7800 x 3
File/Kernel: DD-WRT v3.0-r55416 std (03/19/24)
Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r55262 std (03/03/24), last reset at 54905
Mode/Status: Gateway (SFE disabled), Access Point (DD-WRT firmware,2.4GHz, 5GHZ, WPA2/WPA3, 802.11r/v/k), IPV6 (DHCP6 w/ prefix delegation), Entware, DOT via SmartDNS/DNSMasq, OpenVPN server, Wireguard Server + 2 wired access points (DD-WRT firmware,2.4GHz, 5GHZ, WPA2/WPA3, 802.11r/v/k)
Issues/Errors:
Up 9 hours. USB 3.0 working properly for Entware and "jffs" partitions. Wireguard and OpenVPN servers working as expected and throughput sufficient to open video files on network shares. Speed (tested via nPerf.com) is very close to published, both wired and wireless, which is equal or favorable to the ISP router. SFE remains disabled due to random reboots. Router LAN lights are working.
So far so good. I am interested to see @Vaako's results on SFE.

I too am having this issue. Do you know if the developers are aware and if there is a defect associated with it?

No, I don't know. Sorry.
I am not familiar with the requirements for a bug report, nor how it can be entered, but I've read about this particular bug on this forum several times and hope to keep up the awareness by mentioning it here.
Several cases of upgrading an XR500 or R7800 to this latest build were reported here already, but nobody mentioned problems with writing to an SMB share.
My use case for the USB thumbdrive involves an OPT partition (entware) and a JFFS partition, where I keep some scripts. Scripts that I used to work on through SMB from my desktop workstation.
However, the scripts have crystallized by now and then there's the workaround.
Updating and upgrading entware on the router works fine. It doesn't involve SMB.
Upgrading entware did not make the SMB write bug go away.
I have not had time to try and change settings for the Samba server in the GUI to see if that helps.
The shutdown script I use checks and if needed repairs the file systems on the thumbdrive.
