I think all 3 of mine are capable of doing it, on k4.9 with SFE on.

It would be interesting to compare the effect oF K6.1 and SFE - in a table form for all 4 combinations.
And a comparison including usage as OpenVPN and WireGuard clients too.
My internet speed means it all performs the same here.
A 1Gb connection would really show up the differences.

The kernel update is still causing some problems here and there on various platforms and routers.

It will probably take some time until everything is solved.

I hope SOON BS will release a new build for EA8500 with k4.9.x
if not many of us will be gone ...silly Netthang R9000 is still on k4.9.x

I just don't see a quick fix for all the k6 shit that needs to happen for EA8500

I am perfectly fine to remain on k4.9 r53562 for now. That is until a zero day vulnerability shows up. When and if that would happen, I think most of us WOULD switch to something else. I am pretty confident we will get fixed before that happens. BS should just focus on the serious issues and not adding Plex and usteer, unless those are paid for features. If so, I understand this reasoning completely!

Anything could happen. BS could have a stroke or heart attack or anything else, as could any of us at any moment. Then DD-WRT is dead with him and his legacy. There is barely a handful of humans alive that can build all this sourcecode for all these routers.

I never really understood the secrecy surrounding the building of ddwrt from source. Whatever the reason, I am sure it's a valid one for BS. Perhaps this could be rethought someday to allow easy building of the kernel and root filesystem while leaving out the secret/GUI parts.

DD-WRT is the de-facto standard for routers since what, 2006? I have been using it since it was just a few months released on a long ago discontinued Linksys WRT54G. Well, same story for our EA8500s and R7800s and many other discontinued routers he still supports (for many years). It's an amazing project since day one and I feel certain we will get this resolved at some point for our beloved EA8500s.

Given the size of their community, I think that OpenWrt probably takes that title.
BUT - I prefer DD-WRT and the choices BS has made with it.
I moved my EA8500 over to OpenWrt not because I was stuck on r53562, but because I wanted to familiarize myself with OpenWrt again.
It has simply confirmed my preference for DD-WRT.
Things like OpenVPN Client setup are much better laid out in DD-WRT.
Once K6.1 for EA8500 gets sorted, I'll flash it back.
