[SOLVED] dd-wrt OpenVPN EA6400 Server w/E3000 & iPAD Clients

DD-WRT build number in use: DD-WRT v3.0-r53001 mega (06/17/23)

OVPN Client
===========
E3000: https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/06-17-2023-r53001/broadcom_K3X/dd-wrt.v24-53001_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000.bin

OVPN Server
===========
EA6400: https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/06-17-2023-r53001/linksys-ea6400/linksys-ea6400-webflash.bin

Set up "standard" TUN based VPN Client on EA6400 per 'DDWRT OpenVPN Server Setup guide v32' 'OpenVPN Client settings (using a DDWRT router as client of your DDWRT server)' Page 18, with certain exceptions:

Port 1194 => 443
Set Multiple Servers - => Disable
Second Data Cipher AES-128-GCM => AES-256-GCM
Third Data Cipher AES-256-GCM => AES-128-GCM
Inbound Firewall on TUN Selected => Deselected
Watchdog - => Disabled
Source Routing (PBR) - => Route all sources via VPN
Additional Config verb 5 => verb 5
mute 0
remap-usr1 SIGHUP
resolv-retry infinite
TLS Key - => -BEGIN OpenVPN Static key V1-

Changed
"Push Client Route" from 'Default Gateway' to 'Servers Subnet' on VPN Server Settings (EA6400)

On Client (E3000) set up 2.4GHz WiFi in Repeater mode, and connected it to local WiFi which had a server on 192.168.1.1 so WAN IP on E3000 was 192.168.1.184

Great to see you have it running.

For an OpenVPN client on DDWRT (e.g. your E3000) you can just import the config file.
Saves you the trouble of setting up manually Smile

When you want an even easier setup and faster connection use WireGuard.

I forgot one photo.

Thank-you @egc for the tips on WireGuard and exporting the config!
Will try both.

Thank-you @egc VERY much for writing the OpenVPN dd-wrt guides and trouble-shooting doc.
I could not have got this running without these great resources.
Took me over a month but the tools that you created guided me to a solution.

Warm regards
