I'm trying to setup multicast for an IPTV stream on to an NVShield. I have the shield plugged into a LAN port. The router is plugged into the WAN port. I saw the article below which states that:

"Note: in AP mode, LAN cable to gateway/modem and LAN cable to IPTV box must be on the switch ports of the dd-wrt router and not on the WAN port, even if "assign WAN port to switch" is enabled."

1) Does this have any effect if I'm wired and don't care about multicast on the rest of the network including wifi?
2) Should I just setup a seperate VLAN for that one port?
3) Do I need to reconfigure and have the router plugged into a LAN port - Not sure hot that would work

In my experience it shouldn't matter what port you are on. It should multicast no matter. Make sure you turn on multicast. Multicast should automatically work on the newest versions of dd-wrt but I think it is important to use iptables to accept the traffic for input, output, and especially forwarding.

iptables -I INPUT -i br0 -m pkttype --pkt-type multicast -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD -i br0 -m pkttype --pkt-type multicast -j ACCEPT
iptables -I INPUT -i eth0 -m pkttype --pkt-type multicast -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD -i eth0 -m pkttype --pkt-type multicast -j ACCEPT

You use -s in place of -i to just multicast all devs.

Try in client to see it work.

Wifi and Multicast is not a good combination.

Untick the " Filter Multicast"
