I recently noticed that I could no longer access my nextcloud server. It had been working at least as recently as 3 weeks ago.

I tried accessing through both my external web address as well as my internal ***:81 address neither worked.

My first thought was that some change to a recent build had broken something (I'm currently using the latest r52894). I started installing older builds eventually going back as far as January of this year, a point at which I know all worked fine. Nothing helped.

I took a look at the lighttpd error logs and found that the process had been stopped - attached below

I manually attempted to restart the service but that failed.

nvram get output shows lighttpd_enable = 1 and ports are at defaults of 81 and 443.

I've made no changes to to lighttpd or my dns in months (my router at all, for that matter) and I'm at a loss as to what is preventing lighttpd from starting and why reverting to an older build fixes nothing.

Any idea's as to what may be going on?

thanks

1.4.70 appears to have issues. It keeps crashing on me so I have rolled back for now.

There appears to be a missing server module.

Maybe a change in the ssl library.

Then you must use an older build that is not broken.

Thanks, My search didn't pull up that post.

Removing reference to 4 depreciated mod_ in config fixed the problem.

It appears that some users are experiencing difficulties with the process dying on the Netgear R9000 router. This issue can be quite frustrating, as it disrupts the normal functioning of the device and hampers its performance.

If you are encountering this problem, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try. First, make sure that your router's firmware is up to date. Netgear often releases firmware updates to address bugs and improve overall stability. Updating the firmware may resolve the issue you're facing.

If you look further down, a lighttpd developer (gstrauss) has advised to update lighttpd to fix the crash bug:

Regarding mod_secdownload, it is not coming back, but a replacement is available using mod_magnet. mod_secdownload was deprecated since lighttpd 1.4.64 and removed in lighttpd 1.4.68.
https://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/lighttpd/wiki/Release-1_4_68

You're probably not even using mod_secdownload, so comment out "mod_secdownload" from server.modules in lighttpd.conf.

And opened a ticket with patch and other information:
