As I said on the release thread for r52720, after upgrading from 51679 to 52720, I found that enabling 'QoS' knocked a lot - a third to a half - off my download speeds. That is: QoS was enabled on the old build, and worked fine; but, on the new build, enabling QoS caused the slowness. I did fiddle somewhat with my QoS settings - I raised the download and upload threshold - and that seemed to help a little bit.

Can anyone shed light? I'd like to be able to re-enable QoS (but without a speed penalty).

Here are some further details.

    * My router is an Asus RT-AC66U and my use of it is fairly standard; it works as a router for a Windows PC, two Linux laptops, and an Android phone. I've nothing especially special enabled in the DD-WRT settings.

    * Ethernet in particular (as against wifi) seemed to suffer from new build + QoS, and especially when I enabled by VPN. (That VPN runs in software, and is Wireguard.)

    * I found that, even on the old build, within the QoS settings I had to exaggerate my maximum upload and download speeds a bit, on pain of losing a bit of speed.

I'll try to supply further information if necessary.

Using WireGuard with QoS is like force-enabling CTF, CTF+FA, or SFE with QoS. Not advisable.

Thank you for your reply.

Even when my VPN is off, my download speed suffers from having QoS enabled; it is just that when the VPN is on, the problem is greater. So: Wireguard's presence is at most only partially responsible for the problem. Moreover, and as I said: on the earlier DD-WRT build, QoS caused no problem.
