Upgrade Method HTTPS via Web GUI
Previous Build/Reset r52569/NO
Up Time 3 hours
Configuration Type Gateway
WAN DHCP. LAN/wlan0 5Ghz vanilla VHT80+80 br0 with AP Mesh attached. Wlan0.1 Isolated AP Isolated network with FW rule(s) to wlan1 resource(s). Wlan1 2.4Ghz Vanilla 20/40 without Masquerade/NAT. Wlan1.1 Isolated AP and Isolated network. All clients with static leases x4 DHCP. MAC Filtering. Access restrictions. Ignore WAN DNS with static DNS servers, DNSMASQ, cached DNSSEC, Validate DNSSEC replies, no DNS rebind, Query DNS strict order. WPA 3 and WPA 2. Syslogd to FS on br0 LAN. Cooling fan USB attached. WAN traffic counter.
Everything functioning without issue. Thanks BS and team!
Strange issue. I tried to add a new device to my static devices in the DNSMasq Additional Options text box. This would have been my 29th device. I added the device and hit Apply. The router went into a boot loop and eventually factory reset. I had made a nvram backup just after I upgraded to 52596 so I thought I'd just restore that and try again. I did the restore and again, boot loop ending in factory reset.
I tried doing a long press on the reset button to force a factory reset and then try a restore. Same issue. Power cycle the router, try the restore, no luck. I had to downgrade back to 52569 and restore the backup I made just after the first time I used 52569. That worked. I added my new device to 52569 and that worked.
Is there something unstable in 52596? I should have been able to restore a backup made on 52596 to the factory reset 52596 but could not. Also, I am not sure why adding a device to the DSNMasq list would cause a crash. I know I did not typo the configuration line since I keep a text file of the Additional Options entries and I added my new device in the that file, then did a copy & paste to DDWRT. I used the same file and same process to add the device to 52569 without issue. _________________ Netgear R9000

what ever i do i always click save and then reboot...or edit values via CLI than nvram commit reboot...i avoid apply button for the same reason especially on R9000...
apply reboots some services and recompiles the firewall and ect.. so, it may be a glitch... _________________ Atheros

That is probably very good advice, and if I had thought about it I would have done that. I still think something is wrong that I could not restore a backup from a working configuration into a factory reset build. _________________ Netgear R9000

It's possible. I have noted that BS has been doing extensive work of late to dnsmasq judging by trac. The real tell would be to nvram erase && reboot, gui factory reset, reload known good nvram, scp 'file' to /tmp, write linux, gui reboot, gui nvram save and try again; however one build may not be worth that much time because we have more to test coming up and the problem may be gone in the next build. So if it were me I would wait till the next build and then if it persists, I would file a ticket on it.
I am cognizant of possible problems with live nvram storage that has been running a long time with extended exposure to the internet. I craft the reload procedure specifically to eliminate that concern. But from your description this does not sound like that; it sounds like a bona fide problem in that particular build.

That's my plan. I'll look at it on a newer build _________________ Netgear R9000

The golden rule apply's "to identify a problem/error/glitch whatever and make a track ticket, you have to reset and manually recompile and than provide details about how to reproduce the error..."
In your case you carry old nvram backup that may contain old undeleted variables, some odd values and ect. Moreover on some occasions i can see old interfaces that are deleted or not there, but still carried over..with nvram...that's why reset after update and manual recompile matters...
Well..we usually dont do it, until its is a due...i carried R7800 with no reset, for more than an year...than, i had to do it cause it started to behave funny...than, i sanitised it and its back...
Sadly, nobody knows when reset would be a compulsory...or at least nobody will tell us...recently
with the new GUI VLAN tab in order to move forward, i had to do it... _________________ Atheros
