Hi all,
I'm trying to get an old Asus wl-500gp work with a Huawei k4510H HSPA USB dongle.
I successfully flashed the Asus with the DD-WRT Broadcom Generic - K2.4 - Mega build 44715 but I don't get the USB modem option in the WAN section of the router interface.
I was reading this old discussion https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=69970&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
and it seems that I need the k26 version of the firmware, but I dont' find it.
Anyone can help ?

There's a lot of (outdated?) information in the wiki:

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/All_Asus_WL-500xx_series_routers

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_WL500--_old_descriptions

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_WL-500g_Premium_En

https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/ASUS_WL-500gP_v1

In your linked thread, @redhawk0 stated that the mega (dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin) is probably required, but perhaps certain functionality was removed over time, not sure if it was re-added, but current release is 52189 (the router database is not de-facto or updated):

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/03-28-2023-r52189/broadcom/

I was trying to find information on how to convert to K26 on this device (similar to the WRT54GL), but no luck yet. I wouldn't advise flashing K26 generic on your router as it seems there is no information to support that possibility. Are you sure you're not looking for "Mobile Broadband" for WAN connection type as the name may have changed?

Thank you for answering.
This is how the WAN type menu looks like

As best I can tell from what is in the public view, 2.4 and 2.6 kernel images do not have the required configurations and bits to do USB dongles. But the only way to know for sure if this is still an issue is to check the current release...

Which corerev do you have, 13 or 9? For such an old router, I would stick with K2.4.

For USB modems troubleshooting (provided you have a build with the feature), the first thing is to verify whether the dongle is detected, and then whether reported as USB storage or really as USB modem, which would imply you would have to check, or manually applying the modeswitch.

For more information, you could read the wireless wiki.
