I wanted to possibly help those that might run into the same issue as me and offer a solution. When i had everything hooked up to the pins and the serial usb in my pc, pluging the power adapter to the router just kept giving me solid ethernet lights no matter how many times or variations i tried. Eventually i had everything plugged in but the last wire closest to 3.3v on the router(because through testing i noticed it would start normally with just the other 2 plugged in). So i tried plugging in the ac adapter to the router and instantly(practically at the same time) insert the last dupont cable to the 3rd pin in the router and FINALLY got a response in putty, flashed twice, and still running dd-wrt beautifully! I went through pretty much the entire thread with the serial solution trying to figure out what to do so I thought I'd make this post to keep someone else from looking through it for the solution to the solid eth lights and not finding it lol Let me know if this helps anyone!

This is already a known issue, but thank you for your confirmation. Usually pulling the black/ground lead, power-up, and reconnect does the trick.
