Why would it be that the TX power setting in the Wireless Basic Settings page and the value in the Status, Wireless page differ by 4 dB?

5 GHz:
Regulatory Domain Netherlands
Driver Vanilla
Antenna Gain 0 dBi

Settings page: TX power 30 dBm (max 30)
vs.
Status Wireless: wlan0 TX power 26 dBm

Is it just the "max 30" which is wrong?
On 2.4 GHz in my router the difference is also 4 dB, but the max for this band is 20 (dBm) per the settings page and I have it set to 24, so that explains the 20 dB in the status info.

The Max power is also regulated by the Regulatory Domain some domains do not allow more than 26 dB.

Of course you have to set the domain according to the region you live in, anything else is illegal. But I live in Panama which allows 30 dB.

Yes, the value displayed in the WLAN settings is incorrect.
The maximum TX power depends on the domain and the selected channel.
In Europe, a maximum of 26dB is allowed on channels 100-140.

In earlier builds, this was once displayed correctly in the WLAN settings.

So I guess the "(max 30)" is more like the limit for the router hardware (1 W output) and does not reflect the domain setting.

BTW: the 5 GHz Channel Quality dropped from a consistent 99% to 84% now that I have upgraded to 52054 from the previous build. The 5 GHz band is totally empty here at this moment. Only very occasionally there's another signal but much lower in the band.

The channel quality depends on the activity on the channel.
The activity can also come from yourself.
If you do a speed test or load test, the quality also decreases - completely without external influences.

And we are not looking for bugs that are not there.

My 1043v2 which also lives in Panama Cool

Im very close to it ATM... just one plaster wall away and 2.4Ghz signal is ok... Cool

but there is indeed misunderstanding, on wifi report page and wifi settings page ...
+ signal is usually 90-97% but not 79% also domain TX override settings are missing, but i guess 1043v2 does not deserve it.. Laughing im fine with it...

I don't think you fully understand how channel quality is calculated.
It is calculated from the two values busy and active.

If you restart the wifi, the values are set to 0 and if you then immediately use / load the wifi, the displayed channel quality also decreases.

If the channel is clean and not constantly occupied by yourself or by others then the quality also increases again.

yep the test was performed with one single device connected to it, as im the only one in the office today...
and yes i know how the channel quality varies...but i dont have any complains as far as the
unit delivers its slow performance as its running VPN client, I dont bother with those graph's/reports..so yes im fine with it...just reporting..i didt the speed test running and idle check.. Wink

p.s. if you noticed i do have the same TX output errors..i always set -1 out of the max 25dbm for this unit, so its set to 24dbm but it reports 25dbm...it wasn't like that before ...

see my Acrylic Wi-Fi results with radio when its busy and not even connected to it...both the same, not even close to the real values that you get from DDWRT gui

No idea what exactly I see in the picture.
This shows only the signal level and the channel assignment.
