Hi all,
Got a AC68U on ebay, and the current firmware is 3.0.0.4.386.49703. Label on the back indcates v3 of the router. I did an advanced setup with dummy values to get to the screen to do the firmware update. When I selected the dd-wrt .trx file, I got a message that Asus had implemented a rule and the firmware being loaded did not quality standards. Nevertheless, I saw the progress indicator move as if it was being loaded. I reboot the router, and it still has the Asus firmware loaded on it.
I do a WPS+power on NVRAM reset, and after rebooting, it's still at the stock firmware.
I then try to do a rescue mode via reset/power on and I load the dd-wrt .trx file again. Reboot again. Still at stock firmware. WPS+power on. Reboot. Still at stock firmware.
Try to downgrade to 3.0.0.4.384.45713. Get the warning message again, get the progress indicator. Reboot. Still at the 386 version of the firmware.
Possibly not. No evidence as to whether or not it was successful, and wikidevi only states that AsusWRT-Merlin and FreshTomato are the only 3rd party firmwares that work.
Was your recovery flash with the mini CFE web server via browser or restoration utility? _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

The recovery was via the CFE web server. I obviously didn't wait long enough for the upload ...
I did a NVRAM erase, then load, then waited for a confirmation message... and now I'm in business!!!!
Patience is a virtue. Impatience causes a whole lotta work and worry. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
