Years ago, I installed dd-wrt (build unknown, too long ago) successfully on my Linksys wrt54g v5. I was using it as a second access point, connected via ethernet, to extend my network temporarily into my garage, which worked for the project, then was shelved.

I'd like to reset the router, update, etc to put it back into service.

When plugged into a PC via ethernet, whose ip is set to 192.1.68.1.7, the laptop (running windows 11) can ping the router, whose Power, WLAN, and port 1 lights are on steadily, successfully.

However, when trying to connect to the router through a web browser, (http://192.168.1.1), i get ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. I am assuming this is because the router was set to bridged mode (i think) years ago, and is looking for an IP through DCHP assignment from another router. (same result when connecting both wired and wirelessly)

I've tried to reset this using the 30/30/30 method to no avail. What would my next step be to revive this old beast? any assistance would be appreciated.

192.1.68.1.7 looks funny i guess its typo only here...
i personally dont have W11 , but i believe its a W11 crap may be...disable firewall and try with non- cromium based browser like pale-moon of firefox with no addons..in private mode...

more likely nowadays browsers force the use of http to https, so make sure you can dial http://192.168.1.1

if you need set your PC with forced IP, set in the range of the router interface IP... 192.168.1.1 so, set to your PC 192.168.1.100 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 and try again..

use only reset button for 10-15 sec You dont need to go 30/30/30 and ect...if you update last build is 51937 ...> https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/ than reset to default and rebuild settings manually do not load old settings from different builds...

Good Luck!

Thank you! Interesting how Pale-moon can access what Chrome can not. Firewall on or off did not make a difference, though.

Firmware running on this old hardware: v3.0-r44715 micro (11/03/20). Guess i have some reading to do to update it.

Just download the 03-05-2023-r51937 dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin from the broadcom folder and flash via DD-WRT webUI.

Chrome is known to behave funny with DDWRT web interface...also Chrome forces the use of https so when you type http blabla bla it trys automatically https instead of http... uless you fiddle with its settings..Pale-Moon is not chromium based browser and works ok with DDWRT web interface, it also works with http links by default...(i'm using it for DDWRT only) Cool
