Is SNMP service implementation abandoned permanently from any future firmware builds? I remember it being available in the past, then stripped off due to security reasons. Any clue if it'll be brought back? Would be nice to have some monitoring option again.
Hmmm...I run 'Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r51530 std (01/29/23)' on 'Qualcomm Atheros QCA9533 ver 1 rev 1.1 (0x0141)', no SNMP feature listed in 'services' tab(?!)

Gotcha, thank you! What misled me is the 'std' flag in release version. I expected SNMP to be a part of 'std' build as listed (see attached).
Hypothetically, is there a possibility to remove some extra features (ie. VPN and Hotspot) and 'squeeze' SNMP service instead? Still not enough resources?

Before even going into execution I was just curious to hear if such possibility exists from the pure hardware perspective. If the amount of memory is enough to accommodate such modification. I'm just a user, familiar with DD-WRT purely from configuration standpoint. I've never even looked into the development side and not familiar with hardware requirements. Still, if mentioned modification options would exist, I wouldn't mind looking into building a custom version.

In the meantime, as I have a few spare routers here, I took TP-Link Archer A7 v5, which is much modern hardware and has more resources. I flashed it with the same version of firmware - and still no SNMP in Service tab(?)

Another test...I also have old Linksys E3200 (which seems to be inferior to Archer from the CPU standpoint), 16MB as well - and it has SNMP service in place with the same firmware (distro) version...(?)

I guess as i said the Archer is an AC and its using a different radio firmware and SoC, so SNMP is not present as there is not enough space ... E3200 should be better than the TP-Link TL-WR841ND v9...as E3200 has SNMP use it instead... _________________ Atheros

Thanks for the clarification. That's something I was trying to understand as, again, I'm not familiar with the build structure and 'appetites' on different hardware platforms. It just didn't make sense to me that older and inferior hardware with the same memory footprint could have SNMP, while the more modern devices couldn't. It would be nice if there are builds for AC that have different options, like 'mini', 'std', 'mega' for some other platforms....

I went to check a bit further on included binaries and their size. There are services like MiniDLNA and Tor that are available by default and significant in file size (comparing to the rest of the binaries maybe even the largest). The binary for 'snmpd' on my linux box in only about 35kB in size. I find it strange that such service wouldn't fit the final firmware image. While priorities are different from user to user, I find SNMP feature to be of significant importance for management/monitoring perspective. Definitely more important than ie. previously mentioned MiniDLNA. Same applies to features like Hotspot and AdBlocking. They also seem to be very optional in everyday use, but they're definitely prioritized in distribution.
