Hi, does anyone know when i can finally use my Android mobile as a wan on my r7800 ?

Mod Note 04.11.24: As of 55776/8 and later alpha and beta releases, Android USB Tethering is now included in DD-WRT for those routers which support it:

2024 - Android usb tethering to dd-wrt router?

Yeah, well, because of your inquiry, I again prodded about adding support for Android Tethering and:

Option has not been added to date on any device that I'm aware of:

Isn't your statement somewhat contradictory to the ongoing discussion https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=333919&sid=4dc2d8231207b65b163601e5ca9696f7? Or am I missing something?

Is that available as 'Mobile Hotspot and Tethering' under Settings/Connections of Android phone? But without a GUI inside DD-WRT as implied by your question, if i read your post correctly.

Assuming that it's true, i would say that 802.11ax, aka Wifi6, available on an increasing number of router models, may be the more important feature to wish for DD-WRT compatibility.

Cheers

[edit] I now understand that you want DDWRT to be able to utilize Android phone's tethering as a single device (e.g. laptop) presently can.

Post a screenshot of your options for WAN connection. There is no Android-compatible option to date.

Indeed. On R9000 I can see iPhone tethering and Mobile broadband (which may or may not be related to my question), but nothing explicitly mentioning Android. But what then is the discussion on "Android USB tethering automatic reconnection" about if not Android tethering?

Read the linked Wiki in that thread. The functionality with Android is currently a workaround because it's not natively supported in DD-WRT. Mobile broadband is for USB modems...

I have had this working on my EA8500 for a couple of years now with an Android phone. You have to build two kernel modules: cdc_ether.ko and rndis_host.ko. Instructions for building these modules is available on this forum. Too busy to look for it at the moment.

i think the more easy approach is a android phone with android 12 or higher and a USB to Ethernet Adapter , it should have native Ethernet tethering support.

i am using a EDUP EP-9802 USB C to Ethernet Adapter with Realtek RTL8153 Chipset for such purpose with my Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro Phone ..

Interesting solution, what happens with up time when you want to charge your phone?
I imagine that works.
I live in a country where mobile data is often capped to 1.2mbps after data limits are reached, hence also my desire to have two phones for data at some points in time, ie 2x 1.2 = 2.4 in theory...

See USB Type-C splitter specifically designed for power input one port, data etc. the other port, or wireless charge.

Data limit reached or throttled, swap phone or service.

Gratuitous evidence from my R7800 flashed this morning to test Android Tethering WAN for sir "KILLERDOG":

Only thing I noticed was 'cosmetic' (WAN Connection Type on WAN status page), but it's functional.
