Hey everyone. I have got a TL-WR941N v6 (Chinese language model from chinese market).
Working fine as a wan/lan/router mode. I want to use it in repeater/client mode, & the stock firmware lacks those features.
Flashed another device with tl-wr941NDv6 by mistake & got bricked.
Learned from an old post that wr941Nv5 supports wr940Nv3 firmware (most likely have similar boards).
Can anyone having experience with these chinese market tp-link devices help me which firmware i can try without bricking this one too.
I've been using dd-wrt for a decade on compatible routers.

There is already support for this device. Are you saying that the factory-to-ddwrt firmware image bricks these?

https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/02-04-2023-r51576/tplink_tl-wr941ndv6/

Yes I used this 941ND v6 factory-to-ddwrt on 941N v6 by mistake / in hurry & got a bricked device. As the name suggests there will surely be difference between 941N v6 & 941ND v6. As the device is from chinese market, so no FCC ID etc.
I've searched different forums, YouTube but found no solution.
A guy on dd-wrt forum successfully flashed 941N v5 with dd-wrt 941ND v4 (having similar boards).

But i don't want to risk another unsuccessful attempt by bricking another device.

Semantics. It's the correct file. What you may have experienced is a LAN ports issue...
but no details, no serial console log output, magic crystal ball is cloudy.

New BS Build: r41418 (10/30/19)

I got boot loops & no WiFi after flashing 941NDv6 firmware. As this device is 941Nv6, not 941NDv6. (Most likely have different hardware as compared to 941NDv6)

The device is the same as the TP-LINK TL-WR941ND v6.x
(plus the antenna configuration, N = integral antennas, ND = removable antennas).

You'll have to open the router case, attach serial and get logs as well as provide pictures of hardware. There is confusing information, so the only way to truly know for sure is picture proof.

Similar hardware to other currently supported devices, but definitely NOT a TL-WR941ND v6. Serial boot log of stock firmware and (possibly) fullflash dump needed to submit to developer. Device support may not happen overnight, if at all.

N or ND doesnt matter. N means no detachable antennas. ND has detachable antennas. however the chinese version has a different chipset but uses the same firmware header. i found out that the chinese version is technically a wdr3500, but with less flash memory. i'm currently preparing a testimage. i cannot test it, so please try it with a serial console attached for easy recovery and post any result here.

here the test factory upgrade image (which can also be used for recovery)

Will it work on this revision too??? I'll try your provided test file in a day or 2 & will share the results.

Looks to be the same hardware in the previously posted pictures, and yes, the test image should work. Be sure you have a means of recovery known and available just in case anything goes awry. Hopefully, we can add this to the Officially Supported Devices Wiki soon enough.

@BrainSlayer I really appreciate your efforts you are putting into this project for more than a decade, Sorry Sir, It was not a troll request, i am deeply into it, i am still learning as a newbie, struggling with hardware & software part of flashing & trying to dump factory firmware using ch341a with test clip as i am not a pro in SMD soldering & don't want to destroy the board/rom chip, it's factory dump is also not available online that's why can't risk bricking the device before backup. (chip iD 00000000 unable to read chip, tried different drivers & softwares)
I have successfully saved the factory serial boot data. which initially contain garbage (I thought bootloader is also in Chinese)
