I have a Netgear R6700v3 running DD-WRT. It is running as a secondary router off one of the LAN ports of lhe primary. (The secondary is running OpenVPN.)

It had been working well since May 2022, but a few days ago the WAN port seemingly just stopped working, even though I've made no changes. (It seemed to coincide with a brief internet outage, but a general power cycling of modem/routers mostly fixed that.)

I can no longer access the secondary router admin console from a PC connected to the primary router (though I could before). But I can access the admin console from a PC connected to the secondary router, and everything within the console seems fine. But when I am connected to the secondary router, I have no WAN access, and OpenVPN status shows "RECONNECTING init_instance" forever.

Things I have tried:
Disabled OpenVPN client. Makes no difference. Cannot access WAN.
Connected secondary router directly to modem (bypassing the primary). Still cannot access WAN (but when primary router is connected to modem it is able to access WAN).
Changed secondary router to use one of the LAN ports as WAN port. Made no difference. (I think I did this correctly, but cannot guarantee it.)
Installed the latest Netgear R6700v3 version r51043 from 12/19/22 and restored configuration from a backup (admittedly one taken after it stopped working). Made no difference. BTW, I have compared the configuration line-by-line with screenshots I'd taken back when it was working, and I don't see any noticeable differences.
When I go to Status | Sys Info I see that the WAN MAC is "00:00:00:00:00:01". Not sure if this is relevant.

Other than buying a replacement router (which I'd rather not do), I'm stumped about how to proceed.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I would reset to defaults first and see what is happening

Restoring a backup to a different build is a bad idea.

Incorrect MAC address may be to blame. Could be nvram corruption, could be in the bootloader.

This router does not have a wan interface. It's only a port off the switch.

Check it with the commands

ifconfig
swconfig dev switch show

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

@egc gave me what I needed to resolve the issue.

I reset to the latest firmware and this time I did not restore the backup, but recreated the settings from scratch, testing as I went along. It's all now working again Smile (I assume something must have become corrupted along the way.)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated!
