Dear all,

In my private network, I have a local DNS on a different machine as the router.

In "Setup" > "Basic Setup" > "DHCP" my actual conf is like the picture in attachment.

On my computer, I have added in DNS system conf, the IP of the DNS server and the IP of the router.

However, local resolution doesn't work.

Can someone please help me ?

Thank you all

Leave static DNS 1,2 and 3 at default 0.0.0.0

Set Local DNS to 192.168.3.21

Untick use DNSMasq for DNS

DNSMasq should now hand-out 192.168.3.21 as DNS address of your clients I hope

@egc,

I changed parameters as you suggested (screenshot in attachment).
Then, I reboot the router.

However, by doing curl <mydomain> on the terminal of my local machine, the resolution doesn't work.

I have added another screenshots of other parameters.

Have I missed something in the configuration ?

Need I to add something at another point of the configuration ?

Thank you for your help Smile

Your Gateway is wrong.

Keep it at default 0.0.0.0

Untick Recursive DNS unbound

So, I changed the gateway to default parameters: 0.0.0.0
The local DNS Server point to the private address of my DNS server.

DHCP-Authoritative and Recursive DNS Resolving (Unbound) are ticked (screenshot in attachment)

On my laptop, i have added the address of my DNS server in the laptop DNS parameters.

Is there something else I can do ?

You should untick recursive DNS.

Your laptop can be set to automatic DNS. DNSmasq should hand-out your local DNS server

The first step is to set the network settings of your laptop to automatic / DHCP.

The goal is for the router to assign the correct addresses via DCHP.

What is your local DNS for a device?

By the way, no resolution of the LAN names will work this way.
At least not the addresses of the dd-wrt router ... which is bypassed with this setup...

Well, you have to remove the manually configured DNS entries on the laptop.

If the laptop does not receive the address 192.168.3.21 as DNS server via DHCP, then enter the address as static DNS 1.
This also works and I have already tested it.

I cleaned the laptop DNS (screenshot in attachment)
Then, i change the configuration of the DD-WRT with Static DNS 1 configured to point to my local dns server (sreenshot in attachment)
However, with this configuration, I can't reach local and world sites. Nothing work Sad

I don't un derstand because before flashing my router to WRT, the DNS worked well and I didin't change the conf.

I guess I miss something on the DD-WRT...

Well the screenshots from the notebook do not reflect your router settings.
If "use dnsmasq for DNS" is disabled then the Notebook cannot get 192.168.3.1 as DNS server because nothing is running there.

Restart the router / apply the settings correctly then the notebook will also receive the correct address...

But apart from that, so much information is missing here...
How is the network set up, what is your "local DNS" for a device?
How are the devices wired, are other routers / subnets used...?

So I don't know what this is going to be, impossible to say what exactly needs to be adjusted

So, I rebooted the router.
Then, I applied settings (screenshot attached).

My network can be also see on the screenshot.

I have the ISP box with only wired network that provide internet to DD-WRT (192.168.3.1) router.
From the DD-WRT, my laptop and the DNS server (192.168.3.21) are wired connected.
There is not subnet. In a closed futur, a meshed router will be install.

What do you mean by "My local dns" ?

Can I provide you more information ?

The reboot filled the right DNS Server (screenshot in attachment)

However, I can't access sites outside my private network...

Need I to add Google DNS in Static DNS 2 and Static DNS 3 ?

Please explain what kind of device "your DNS server" is.

Your notebook has now received the address 192.168.3.21 as its DNS server.
It communicates directly with this address on port 53.
If your notebook cannot resolve DNS, then your DNS server is not working properly.

My DNS Server is installed on my Open Media Vault server. I build the server myself.

My DNS server is configured to resolved only in private network. It doesn't resolved elements from outside network.

I have added Google DNS on DD-WRT and reboot.

Everything is now working well

Thank you for your help all Smile

1) Clients should have dd-wrt router as dns

2) DNSMasq on the router will answer the client and fetch from upstream DNS servers

3) if <host>.home, dnsmasq wil query local dns server for the local host name and return result to client.

Is this what you intended?

You must have the Use DNSMasq ticked at the router.
