Router/Version: Linksys WRT1900AC v1
File: ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin
Kernel: Linux 4.9.319 #3280 SMP Sun Jun 19 14:50:17 +07 2022 armv7l
Previous/Reset: RESET
Mode/Status: Residetial Gateway when running.
Issues/Errors:
When you flash the R50841 ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin file for the WRT1900AC v1 it will not boot to either partition afterwards.
I am thinking this error only effects the WRT1900AC v1 units since I already installed the update on Netgear R8000, ASUS RT-AC66U, and a WRT1900AC v2. None of them have exhibited this behavior.

This is what I did:

First I downloaded both factory-to-ddwrt file and the ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin for R50481 from:
    https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/11-09-2022-r50841/linksys-wrt1900ac/.
Next I reset the device back to the factory defaults.
Now I proceed to install 'ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin' using the 'Reset to Factory Defaults' option enabled.
**This is where things went off the rails so to speak.**
Router will not reboot. It also will not switch boot partitions using the power switch method.
The power light and eSata LED's keep flashing on and off.
At this point my only option was to perform a serial recovery since neither partition would boot.
I used https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1062875 to aid in the serial recovery.

After the serial recovery:
I installed the Linksys OEM firmware onto BOTH Partitions. Using the "run update_both_images" command.
After booting the OEM firmware I installed the 'factory-to-dddwrt.bin' file for R50841.
Router rebooted and all seemed to be working as expected.
Now I update the factory-to-ddwrt install using 'ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin.'
And the router failed to boot again same as before. Both partitions wiped out.
Performed another serial recovery, again installing the OEM firmware to both partitions.

Third time is charm....so I thought:
Rather than repeating the last experience again, I returned to DD-WRT download site and downloaded both the factory-to-ddwrt and the webflash files using a different computer this time.
I then compared the checksums of todays download versus the one I download on the 12th, they matched.
    SHA256: FBF496F67D8B36DAA693DA8B8B0508480A96E4239A73BA4FA3745DC86382EA6F
I flashed the factory-to-ddwrt. It rebooted without out incident.
I power cycled the router two additional times. No issues.
I now flash the webflash file I download the today.
Sure enough the router will not boot again, with the power and eSata flashing off & on.

So? I do a third serial recovery, but this time I reverted back to R49268. I was looking forward to checking out the updated DDNS client.

I apologize I completely overlooked the fact I should have saved a log file showing the serial recovery, but I do remember seeing "ERROR: can't get kernel image!" just prior to the Marvel>> prompt showing up.

Could be related to partition sizes and which partition the initial flash was done to, or that the firmware image for webflash has become too large again. Serial logs would be helpful, so would confirmation by another WRT1900AC v1 user. You could also figure out which boot partition you're on after initial flash and then check via command line flash if the image is too big, but the webUI shouldn't flash it if that were the case (we hope!).

I flashed to two WRT1900AC v1s and had no issues. I used the GUI update coming from R50814 without reset and neither had a problem. My main router has been up for 3 days. This build seems pretty stable.

Router/Version: WRT1900AC v1
File/Kernel: DD-WRT v3.0-r50841 std (11/09/22)
Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r50814 std, No reset this time.
Mode/Status: Gateway (SFE enabled), Access Point, IPV6 (DHCP6 w/ prefix delegation), Entware, DOT via SmartDNS, OpenVPN server, Wireguard Server, Privoxy

After seeing what dpp3530 wrote I went back and tried to install R50841 again, but without resetting to defaults and it works great.

I followed steps in https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311117 that is marked:
Trick to Upgrade DD-WRT Firmware without losing current configuration....
Worked first time. No issues so far.

Now I am curious as what I did to break the upgrade process.
However, I don't have time to chase that gremlin at the moment, but maybe this weekend.

I love the updated In-a-dyn version 2.9.1 DDNS client.
Now I can dump Entware that is only used to run a DDNS client.

THANK YOU!

There have been reports in the past (way past) that checking the factory-defaults box on flashing has issues. The preferred way to get to the default config (after the flash) is to either (1) hold in the recessed reset button on the back of the router for several seconds, until the front-panel lights start flashing or (2) do "nvram erase" (no quotes) in the CLI via ssh/PuTTy or telnet. Both methods erase the nvram config more or less instantly and then reboot the router.

Just for the record there is no firmware size issue at all and zero reason to be concerned with any partition sizes.
Also, there is no need for tricks to repeatedly flash same partition or to be fearful of losing current configuration.
Simply never select the dropdown option to reset if you are upgrading from DD-WRT web interface, or CLI flash.

Figured as much after the fact, thanks for the clarification without links, walls of text, or further details.

Router/Version: WRT 1900AC v1
File/Kernel: ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash-r50841.bin / Linux 4.9.332 #3510 SMP
Previous/Reset: r40009 / No reset
Mode/Status: Gateway, Wifi. Load Average 0% 0.00, 0.01, 0.00 - Temperatures CPU 62.4 °C / WL0 49.4 °C / WL1 50.9 °C - 2 days uptime so far
Issues/Errors: No issues or errors.

My upgrade from r40009 to 50841 is a big jump and I was worried there might be issues with the upgrade since the old firmware was 3 years old and a zillion changes were made since then, but everything went without a hitch.

As a side note, the UI changes I did not expect but Wow what an improvement. I know they were put in a long time ago, Old news I am sure, but the UI is sooo much more responsive when saving or applying compared to the old original UI, and the added features are wonderful (ability to delete any static IPs for instance). Thanks for the great work DD-WRT people!
