Installed the latest firmware as of a week ago. I tested my speeds and they are tremendously slow compared to what I can recall. R9000 and followed the QCA settings to a T. I set the tcp to Westwood as I read a lot of people use it. I see a lot of talk on sfe I have that enabled and stp disabled. Any suggestions? Or any more info you need let me know. New to this still but definitely like figuring it out. Tried the search on here but not really finding anything that would have my settings way off.

Network Mode Mixed (default)
Channel Width Wide HT40 (40 MHz)
Extension Channel Upper (for Channel 1)
TurboQAM (QAM256) Disable (default) only enable if clients support without issue.
Firmware Type VANILLA
TX Power 30 overkill unless trying to blast through walls, and is one direction only.
LDPC should not appear anymore so maybe your configuration is old, or not reset.
U-APSD (Automatic Power Save) Disable (default)
Protection Mode None (default)
RTS Threshold Disable (default)
Beacon Interal 100 (default) 200 or 400 with DTIM 1 only if no issues with clients.

I would suggest using the 5ghz as your primary radio and the 2.4ghz as your secondary radio for any devices that do not work with the 5ghz band very well.

On the 5ghz radio, I would start with 20mhz and run a speed test on certain devices. if all looks well, raise it to 40mhz channel width. For channel, you can choose to leave it on auto and let the router find the best channel for you OR you can do it manual by going to

Status > wireless > select whichever wlan shows the 5ghz radio

and then click on the "channel survey". check the list for your whichever channel looks cleanest to you and then set it to that specific channel in the wifi settings.

on 2.4ghz, same process. but I personally would not expect anything great out of this radio since its only got 11 channels and usually goes great with lower end devices like security cameras, printers, roku, fire stick, and whatever else may not be able to fully utilize literally 1gbps internet.

Let us know how things go for you.

for my R9000 i use only 2.4ghz (as on all my routers), bear in mind R9000 has radio + heating issues..so make sure you set the fan to 25-30C (to be constantly on)
for TCP congestion use Vegas, Cubic(native linux) or BBRv2....
https://www.speedguide.net/articles/tcp-congestion-control-algorithms-comparison-7423

regarding WiFi settings/speeds even with optimal settings, there could be a bad client too....

Only the TCP congestion control has no influence if you use DHCP as WAN connection type.

As I have explained several times, congestion control has no effect on Layer 2 packets forwarded through the router.

It only affects connections that terminate directly at the router (the router is the endpoint) such as PPPoE or VPN in TCP mode.

It is also written in the router on the help page under "Network Stack Tunning".

And that you should not use Auto-Channel is also generally known. Smile

Way better with blkn settings in his post. Also did the channel survey for noise and set both the the lowest channels. Are these setting just for 2g or what should my 5G be also? I may just disable 5G unless I need it for bigger downloads anyways but wanna have it set up.

I know this speed test isn’t legit and what not but a lot better than the 35 40 range I was getting… I feel like I was getting more out of my old tp link AX3000 though that I replaced with this r9000…

Edit 5G is up around 600. Phew that makes me happier. But also are blkn settings good for 5G then or?

if you are referring to bklt, no. He is referring to 2.4ghz specifically based on the settings he mentioned.

But like I mentioned, 5ghz as primary for as many devices as you can. and for 2.4ghz, just for devices that do not work well or cannot connect to the 5ghz radio on your router.

I would stick to defaults for now, but change appropriate settings one at a time as needed.
