I'm not going to look at image size numbers from 41986 to present to see which ones are under the prescribed size to edit the wiki without flash reports of each build. People not reporting flashing this device in the forum are not helping curate information. I was looking for flash reports on this device or other threads that apply and can't seem to find anything except a thread from you back in 2017:

r7000 same problem I have had the last few builds the NTP server variable is not doing anything, I can change it in the web gui and it changes the nvram variable ntp_server but the defaults are still used, no attempt in the log is seen to use the different servers.
Wifi speeds were really good last build but now it won't hold at 866mbit 5ghz and drops to 2.4ghz 200~mbit

not an R7000 but it uses the same ntp code , I just set the google time server 216.239.35.4 in the NTP field and this is what syslog is showing:
Code:
Nov 8 15:06:19 E1200v1 daemon.info process_monitor[2711]: Cyclic NTP Update success (servers 216.239.35.4)
Nov 8 15:06:19 E1200v1 daemon.info process_monitor[2711]: Local timer delta is 0

So at least on this router it is working
I am not sure if it's an r7000 thing but more likely my config. When I do the same thing I set ntp_server field to an ip it changes the nvram, if use apply it restarts the process but the log still shows the default server list. I have tried either save restart, save apply or apply only and all have the same result. I will try resetup from scratch next.
Here are my ntp nvram setting if you see any problem?

if the nvram value is changed and followed by nvram commit...it will be saved and used/reported...
it will survive restart too..
try settings
nvram set ntp_server=216.239.35.4
nvram commit
reboot
than check the log with
cat /tmp/var/log/messages
do you by any chance use remote loggin via commands...on a usb ?

Check if your nvram is not filled to the max, look at Status/router page
Well other nvram settings became changed with this build. I also had strange repeated wifi disconnects which when reconnected asked for the wifi password again, which I didn't give and still reconnected after a bit lol.
Anyway I am re setting up with the next build, dev is moving fast.
